How to become an omnivore...and like it?

An adult friend of mine is very, very picky about food. She doesn't eat any vegetables in their recognizable forms (e.g. hates tomatoes, but tomato sauce is no problem). Fruits, meats, dairy and other starchy stuff (bread, potatoes, rice, etc.) are all OK, but she'll gag on a piece of lettuce. What can she do to expand her tastes? Parent-filter: In our household we expect our toddler to eat the same food as we eat, or at least eat a certain number of bites before leaving the table. This is rewarded with dessert. For new or exotic things, we also expect them to 'try' the food before opting out. A close friend considers the above expectations to be 'forcing' a child to eat, and that it 'makes her sick to her stomach.' I'm about 25 lbs heavier than I'd like to be, and need information and motivation to help me get started eating better and moving more. I've previously lost a considerable amount of weight (growing up I had weight issues, and topped out at around 210. I'm a 5'6" female, and currently weigh 165) but that was mainly through very controlled eating, and while I was a smoker. We don't eat fat. If we do eat fat - ugh! Common?

Mr LyzzyBee and I have been on a very low saturated fat diet since March, for medical reasons. We are happy, healthy, fit, in the correct weight ranges and the doctors are happy with us. However, we were away over New Year's and, while I have really gone off stuff with fat in, Mr LB engaged fully with our hosts' food, having something we wouldn't normally have (a couple of biscuits, yesterday 2 buttered rolls with bacon and sausage) and now has an upset stomach (we do eat red meat, but only very lean / with fat trimmed). Is this common? He's scared he's got food poisoning, I think it's the fat. [more inside]

Bland Diet -- tips and recipes for surviving. My sweetie has severe acid reflux -- about as bad as acid reflux can get. So he has to stick to a bland diet for the foreseeable future. This is particularly hard on him because he is a real foodie and enjoys eating out. The doctor did not give him really specific instructions for what or what not to eat. I just learned that I have 2 cavities and I am guessing it's because I switched to drinking a lot of diet soda since my last dentist visit. Are there any diet sodas that are not acidic? (both caffeinated and uncaffeinated). If all diet sodas are acidic then is it possible to make kool-aid with a fake sugar and then carbonate it using a carbonator? How would that taste? Would that be ok for my teeth?
