. How much time do the following take off:
One drink over the recommended limit?
One burger for which the calories are not burned off?
Preferred units: assume a drink to be one UK unit

I’d like to find an Austin-area nutritionist who makes house calls, if such a person exists. I’m talking about someone who will come in and go through the fridge and the cupboards and the pantries, throwing out the over-processed, obesity-fostering crapola, and then provide—even dictate—a shopping list and a weekly menu. If that’s not possible, what’s the nearest approximation? [more inside]

My wife has a condition that may be helped by cutting dairy foods and wheat from her diet. Can anyone advise us on how to make the transition from a diet replete with dairy and wheat to one devoid of these foods? How will our bodies react? What about our psyches? Can anyone recommend recipes or better yet, cook books?

The more I work out, the more I realize that nutrition has a huge impact on my energy. When is the best time to eat various foods during the day so I have the most energy when I get to the gym at 5:30 p.m.? And how can I meet my nutritional needs, given that I'm a vegetarian who likes less-processed foods but doesn't have a lot of time for cooking (and can't handle eating beans every day)? I feel like I need a lot more protein all of a sudden. [more inside]

I use Fitday (the Windows program downloadable from Fitday.com) and I don't understand the difference between "oz" and "oz, raw, yields" in things like "Onion, mature, raw" and "Cabbage, red, raw". The "oz, raw, yields" includes "raw" a second time (redundant, right?) and what's with the "yields" as opposed to just "oz"? Anyone know? (Fitday is not the only one with the usage, I believe.)

Is the Atkins diet worthwhile as a temporary
diet for dropping about 10 lbs, or does this type of diet have a higher rate of rebound compared to the same weight loss from portion control, Weight Watchers, etc? I'm aware Atkins is intended to be a lifestyle change, but I tend to keep a constant weight just fine and simply want to take 'er down a notch.

Why do I always burp or feel like I have to burp when I go running? This happens even if it has been several hours since I last ate. It doesn't happen every single time, but probably 80% of the time. I like running, its just gross getting a taste of that yogurt you ate 2 hours ago when its 100 degrees outside. Anyone have similar problems? Anything you can do to solve this?

I live in the UK, the stereotypical lunchtime/evening meal is savoury thing(s) then sweet thing.
From my limited travelling, and eating, I've seen the same. It's always savoury(s) first, with the sweet being a kinda optional extra at the end if you're lucky.
#1 Is that order of eating important for our digestion/well being?
#2 Are there any cuisines where the sweet part is normally the major element of the meal?
#3 And is there any good reason why sweet foods are not the bulk/all of our meals?

This is a tangent on the various posts asking about how getting a six-pack stomach. I'm 5'10' and 155 lbs and once and for all, I want to get rid of my slight beer gut and get a flat stomach (any pack would be a welcome bonus). I know that it's all about dieting/nutrition and exercising. I have the exercising thing down, but I have no clue about nutrition. Without giving me intake percentages or confusing me with omega fructose 3 fatty acid stuff, what should I eat to make my stomach flat?
