I've started seeing a dietitian who has recommended a mindful approach to food and eating as part of my ongoing progress towards health. I'm a busy student and freelancer who is about 50/50 at home or rushing about town to uni, meetings, jobs and shows, but I love cooking: I'd really like to have some mindful snacks that I can have at home or carry in my bag on busy days. What do you recommend, Mefites? [Special snowflakes inside, produced and packed in Australia] [more inside]
I've been trying a no sugar/complex carbohydrates diet by dumping vegetables and canned salmon together with beans in a bowl, or dumping vegetables and canned salmon together with shirataki noodles in a bowl and then pouring in hot water. This gets old, fast. What are some ways to simply upgrade the taste of my meals, without added sugar, simple carbohydrates, or too much added salt? [more inside]
A close family member has been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. We are interested in starting a restricted diet (no starch, no dairy, and limiting some other potentially problematic foods) then gradually adding back in dairy/other to see what works for him. I am looking for recommendations for no/low starch food "substitutes" for things like pasta and bread, as well as brands of off-the-shelf-items that fit the bill. If you're on this diet, I would also be curious about how you started. [more inside]
I'm a vegetarian who is trying to lose weight. Unfortunately, I never bothered to gain cooking skills so I don't really know what normal dieters do to feed themselves during the week. Recipe suggestions, por favor? [more inside]
Is there a website or service where you can input particular foods (for a special health related diet) and it'll spit out recipes based on the ingredients entered?

Help me come up with new recipes! My partner has a VERY restricted diet... he has IBS and Migranes...It will be easier for me to tell you what he CAN eat, so here we go: Cauliflower, Carrots, broccoli, Swede, sour cream, butter and oils, garlic, stocks, mushrooms, pasta, rice, barley, pastry, tomatoes, corn, sweet potato, and courgette/zucchini and most meat- plus salmon and chicken.... and I can use a lot of herbs (but no paprika, chili or anything hot)... I would like to set up weekly meal planning/recipe/shopping list service. I follow a certain dietary plan -(NOT paleo )and think that that there i a gap in the market for a simple menu/shopping list which arrives in your inbox every week. The problem is that I have no idea how to go about setting it up.I am a very decent cook and have done this for myself for about a year,so I already have a whole set of recipes and tricks that are diet compliant. I need to know if there are any software options that I should be looking at and I have no problem investing the money for someone else to do it-but I'm not even sure who I should be approaching!I would like to be able to modify it and maybe offer add ons/customizations if it was successful. So any help and advice would be gratefully received! Thank you!
What are your favorite recipes that fulfill the following criteria: low in carbohydrates, lots of good fats, medium to generous on the fiber, and filling/hearty? I'm thinking veggies, soups, and sides, mostly, since that's where my recipe book is weakest. [more inside]
I need 3000 to 3500 calories a day to maintain my current (healthy) weight. Currently, I eat like a normal person, plus a full-sized bag of chips. This keeps my weight stable, but is obviously not ideal. Sometimes I have a fourth meal instead. I also eat a lot of peanuts. I love cooking and eating, but I'm kind of annoyed by this. It's feeling a bit like a chore. Ideas for foods / meals that are high calorie and healthy?

Bland Diet -- tips and recipes for surviving. My sweetie has severe acid reflux -- about as bad as acid reflux can get. So he has to stick to a bland diet for the foreseeable future. This is particularly hard on him because he is a real foodie and enjoys eating out. The doctor did not give him really specific instructions for what or what not to eat. Somethings are obvious -- no citrus, no alcohol, no chocolate. But some things are less obvious -- since it's meant to be low fat is butter okay? [more inside]
What are your favorite single-serving dessert recipes? (I want to avoid over indulging, so the idea is to make my own single-servings at home, thereby increasing dessert-eating transaction costs and decreasing dessert supply.)

I like foods with strong flavors: lime juice, chili peppers, vinegar, red onions, whiskey, onion salt, cilantro, and so forth. I recently figured out that grains were the culprits that make me really sleepy and unfocused. I'm switching to a lean meat, veg-heavy diet. Can you recommend decently healthy, low-carb recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that have LOTS of flavor? [more inside]

A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with Meniere's Disease -- basically chronic vertigo and other inner ear/balance issues. The first course of treatment is through diet: very low salt and no alcohol. The trouble is he still eats like he is in college... [more inside]
I am currently on the South Beach diet (Phase 1, one week into it, please do not reply if you are going to criticize). I am not following their meal plans because they are overly complicated and in many cases require ingredients that I can't get here in this small town. If you've got very simple filling recipes that would qualify for Phase 1 and 2 (please specify which), I would really appreciate hearing them! [more inside]
