Seeking Sludge Solutions

I have been trying to lose 5-10 pounds for three years. I have succeeded only in gaining 15. Clearly, I am either hopelessly incapable of dieting/exercising or it's physically impossible for me. As a last-ditch effort, I find myself wondering if I can just replace some or all of my meals with some kind of... nutritious slurry... without that being a detriment to my health. Why yes, it is another diet question!

Like every other person on earth, I'm intrigued by the idea of a low-carb diet for weight loss and generally feeling better on a daily basis. I've read lots of almost miraculous success stories, and since I need to lose ~20-25lbs and my standard low-calorie, fruits/vegetables/whole grains thing doesn't seem to work any more, of course I'm thinking I should at least try it. The problem is, most of those success stories include extreme euphoria over the opportunity to consume all that yummy fat and protein, but I mostly really dislike fat and and don't particularly love protein either. What to eat?

I'm eating a certain number of calories per day and using My Fitness Pal to track my food. If, for example, I have most of my day's menu planned but have a certain number of calories, fat grams, protein grams, and carb grams I need to eat to meet my daily targets, is there a website that will tell me which foods fit those criteria? Like a calorie database in reverse, I guess. Does that exist?

We don't eat fat. If we do eat fat - ugh! Common?

Mr LyzzyBee and I have been on a very low saturated fat diet since March, for medical reasons. We are happy, healthy, fit, in the correct weight ranges and the doctors are happy with us. However, we were away over New Year's and, while I have really gone off stuff with fat in, Mr LB engaged fully with our hosts' food, having something we wouldn't normally have (a couple of biscuits, yesterday 2 buttered rolls with bacon and sausage) and now has an upset stomach (we do eat red meat, but only very lean / with fat trimmed). Is this common? He's scared he's got food poisoning, I think it's the fat. [more inside]
