How do I avoid gaining weight and stay on a diet while on a cruise ship?

This year I made a resolution for healthier living and have been successful so far. Overcame a lot of bad habits compared to where I started. But I'm going on a cruise with a group of friends next month. From what I've been told it's going to be an around the clock buffet. I'm planning on using the gym but don't know how to deal with all of the food. I'm not going to be on the alcoholic drinks package and figure I can enjoy dinner that way. Breakfast and lunch are a free for all though. Any ideas for what my best options would be so I don't gain 15 by the end of the week.

Best combination food/exercise log app?

iPhone user; I've experimented with exercise logging apps such as MapMyRide+, Cyclemeter and Fitocracy (most of my exercise is cycling-oriented, but I'm also looking at Kinect exercise games and, potentially, weightlifting). Is there a good combo app that logs both exercise and food intake? Or one site that could possibly accept input/imports from both? [more inside]

Math not adding up. Why am I not losing a lot of weight?

Mid-twenties male, eating extremely healthily, exercising very well, very happy with his setup here. But very curious why the pounds wouldn't just be falling off now, when they were at a maintenance level when I had the reverse habits as recently as a few months ago. (Or even any weight loss at all.) [more inside]

"Muscle weighs twice as much as fat"

I'm working out, particularly around the torso, and I'm much stronger. My waistline hasn't budged. My weight has barely changed since I started going to the Y and doing 20 minutes of cardio a day plus lifting weights. Loving wife says that's because I'm building muscle, and "muscle weighs twice as much as fat." What's truly going on?

I have a month to lose some weight without the help of cardio!

I have about a month to lose 5-10 lbs for an upcoming wedding that requires me to wear a dress that does not fit and cannot be altered. Normally I'd cut back on calories and just go running a lot, but I've been rendered unable to run or elliptical or bike due to an Achilles injury that I don't want to worsen. What dietary things and other workout things can I do during this time to ensure weight loss? In my twenties, no health problems, no dietary restrictions, reeeally need to fit into this god forsaken dress.

What exactly is the Transformation Super Challenge?

What exactly is the Transformation Super Challenge? Chris Krueger has some interesting YouTube videos that claim to have a diet/exercise program that can work for anyone. However, the only way to find out about the program is to shell out $55 via his web site. In searching for any reviews of the program, I noticed that every link seems to go to a web page that he runs/owns. I can't find one single review that is not sponsored by Chris Krueger. Has anyone used this program, or can at least give a thumbnail sketch as to what it entails?

I don't like to move it (move it)!

I'm about 25 lbs heavier than I'd like to be, and need information and motivation to help me get started eating better and moving more. I've previously lost a considerable amount of weight (growing up I had weight issues, and topped out at around 210. I'm a 5'6" female, and currently weigh 165) but that was mainly through very controlled eating, and while I was a smoker. I've quit smoking and now live with my boyfriend, which has led to me loosening up on my eating. In some ways that has been good, but has also led to weight gain. [more inside]

cardiology/mitral valve prolapse questions

Recently was hospitalized for acute bacterial endocarditis. The follow-up cardiologist visit is summed up as follows; "..had his echo/doppler study performed today. It shows mitral valve prolapse, which is quite severe. There is a suggestion of ruptured chordae involving the posterier leaflet. There is thickening of the posterier leaflet and a very severe mitral regurgitation. His left ventricular systolic function remains normal and his left atrial dimension is only mildly dilated. At this point, we are going to manage him medically and further management will depend on his progress". There is no medication yet, and I am due for a follow-up visit soon. Have been researching; and also want to ask advice of hive, for areas/questions to prepare. Subjects include his mention of future possible replacement; exercise and diet for heart health; anxiety related to MVP. Help me focus on a valuable discussion with the doctor.
