My good friend has been searching for an outstanding infectious/parasitic disease specialist in NYC. She has looked online, but it seems every doc has good and bad reference.

Help! I think I might have ADD. Does that sound right, Internet? I know you're not doctors and can't diagnose me over the Internet.
Can you help me find a place to get tested (and treated if appropriate) in Cambridge, MA?

What started as an overuse injury has bloomed into a shape-shifting pain octopus, over two and a bit years. I’m not sure which pains mean what, or what to emphasize with my rheumatologist. (Maybe this is about me and maybe it isn’t, but I’ll say it’s me for the purposes of this hypothetical question, and nobody’s my doctor, either.)

I think, but I'm not convinced that I might have ADD. When I talked to a psychologist about getting tested, he told me that because I do very well in college, there is very little likelihood that he or any other psychologist would diagnose me with ADD.

Back in July, my 11 year old cat was tentatively diagnosed with possible early renal failure. This past Saturday, however, she had another round of bloodwork and urinalysis...the results of which indicated her kidneys are probably fine! Needless to say, I'm very happy about this. But the more I think about it, the more it seems like the clinic folks jumped to conclusions way too quickly based on too little information. Am I off-base here, or is it perhaps really time to explore other local veterinary options?

Can a psychiatrist, not a psychologist, give an ADHD diagnosis? My health insurance people really tried to steer me towards a psychologist and not a psychiatrist. Why might they do that? The cynic in me says it's cheaper for them and less likely to lead to a diagnosis.

Is it useful for me, as someone in my late forties, to seek a diagnosis as a high-ish functioning autistic (which, after some research, I'm fairly sure I am) in order to have a clear identity rather than being "that creepy old man". Which isn't terribly good for my self-esteem among other things.

Been giving my cat Kashered chicken - raw or cooked for a while now. Even though the salt is washed out thoroughly no doubt something is left and that doesn't sound like something a cat would be needing in their body.
Now she's sick with a yet undiagnosed disease. Thoughts are creeping in that maybe the salt in the
kashered chicken caused it.

(medfilter) asking for my girlfriend who's beginning to think she's crazy after the 2nd emergency room visit in less than a year where she's been told there's nothing wrong. Her primary complaint is stabbing pain on her right side, right at her ribcage. Sometimes radiating into her chest. Pain can go from annoying (most of the time) to debilitating. She states that she's had some kind of pain there for most of her adult life. I know you are not her doc but I'm hoping that the symptoms might ring a bell to someone.

Something is biting me. I think it might be bedbugs. But last time I thought I had bedbugs it turned out to be something else entirely. So, how can I figure out for sure what it is? What precautions should I take? And, perhaps more importantly, how do I notify my roommates in a timely fashion without unnecessarily freaking them out if it turns out to be a non-problem?

A friend of mine has had, since childhood, a set of medical symptoms that defy diagnosis. She recently finished another round of appointments with specialists in our area to no real effect and much frustration. She's asked me to help her figure out where she might turn for additional diagnosis and care (ie, ways to locate/contact best-in-class specialists/etc, not non-traditional medicine). I'm pretty healthy and have never had this kind of interaction with doctors, so I'm at a bit of a loss.

I read the
wikipedia page for avoidant personality disorder a few days ago and I was shocked how perfectly it described how I've felt since my mid-teens. I brought it up with my therapist (who I've just started seeing for depression) and he said he didn't think that kind of label was useful. I can see his point but I fit the diagnostic criteria so perfectly that not labeling myself with it seems like denial. Should I seek out a diagnosis or should I work on my problems without putting them in a box?

My partner has been suffering for many years from symptoms that we recently realised are a perfect match for MS. Many members of his family, including his father, have MS, and his problems right now are mirroring those his father had that led to his diagnosis. We did some research and he is a perfect, 100% fit to pretty much every online list of MS symptoms.
