What are some good IT-related, or editorial-related, blogs and sites on which to comment, so that if my name is Googled by potential employers, these comments will show in the search rankings? I'm not trying to get my name out there, what I'm trying to do is: kick some old and irrelevant Google search results down, so that relevant and current interests show up first. [more inside]

I am planning to leave my current job in about a year, and hope to be able to make some money (I don't need a lot) by doing freelance web development/programming. While I have a bit of experience with programming and very basic web design ((X)HTML/CSS), this would pretty much be a new field for me. I guess I'm wondering - is this a realistic goal? And if so, what steps should I take to help me get there? [more inside]

I need to build something that allows a client to make credit card payments to my client. I want to use Authorize.net as the gateway but im not sure what backend i should use - a modified opencart or something similar. I DONT want to use paypal, blinksale, etc. as its not so much 'invoice' based but more of a method of sending funds. This thread is very similar but no dice. [more inside]

I am looking for real-life documents surrounding the development of a website. My organization is quite inexperienced in building a website from scratch and we are looking for some documents to get us started. Can anyone point us to some actual specifications, wireframes, test scripts, and project plans for website design and development?

I am interested in gaining the skills needed to build great looking websites, so I could eventually design them on a freelance basis, and on a more short-term basis, incorporate them into my grad school work (I am about to start an MA in Communications/Cultural studies, hopefully focusing on media ownership and the emergence of new media) and professional work eventually. My academic background is in social sciences and visual arts (drawing). [more inside]
