To my dismay I'm aging. Need a desk and chair recommendation. A combo to accommodate my creaking body and long hours I spend at computer designing/writing. [more inside]

You know that trend a while back towards 'smart offices'? I think that's what it was called -- you know, when nobody has their own desk, and they just snag their laptop and go sit anywhere and somehow they are magically more creative and productive as a result? I'm having trouble Googling up trip reports: can you help me out with links to stories and research about experiences in implementing it (or your own personal experience)? [more inside]

My partner and I will probably soon be using Ikea's Björkudden
dining tables as desks. They're made of solid birch and covered in a polyurethane/acrylic lacquer. Is this a good idea? [more inside]

I really love the look and idea of OneLessDesk
but the price ($750 with shipping) kills it. Anyone have any recommendations on similar desk ideas?

, a metafilter post pointed out the health hazards of desk jobs. Which leaves me wondering about the alternatives. Can anyone suggest (preferably from personal experience) examples of great, unusual, economically viable and realistically attainable non-desk jobs? [more inside]

Recommend new desk for Laptop + Flat Panel(s)?
My computer is dying, as is its old desk. I need to replace both. While I'm set on the hardware (15" MacBook Pro + 27" LCD Monitor), I can't find the ideal desk. [more inside]

The company I work for is probably moving away from our parent company into a 3400 sq. ft. building of our own.
I have the task (opportunity) to suggest how we can set up this office for our 31 people. The question is, is there a non-traditional option that is better than the standard cube farm, but is still inexpensive and effective? [more inside]

I need a desk, ASAP (preferably today) (the movers broke mine). I live in Chelsea. Where should I go? (I've tried Staples, Bed Bath & Beyond and The Door Store).

I've got a chance to buy an Ikea Jerker computer desk locally for a good price (the closest Ikea store is in Houston, we're in Austin). How sturdy are they? I'm used to early-80s solid-steel welded Steelcase desks, and am wondering if the Jerker will be solid enough for a 19" monitor and Mac G4 tower. [more inside]

I've got a rather old and decrepit
office-surplus Steelcase desk in my "home office" right now, and am looking for something newer that doesn't have drawers for me to fill up with crud.
Needs to be VERY sturdy (as I may have 2 or 3 large monitors on it at any time) and not wobbly or flimsy at all. I've looked at the IKEA "Jerker
" desk, but the closest IKEA is in Houston (I'm in Austin) and buying one mail-order would be prohibitive.
Suggestions? Budget is $200 max.
