What are some good examples of Tinder-like user interfaces on Desktop (not mobile)? Looking for something with a similar (like/dislike) card interface, but formatted for a desktop screen. Having a hard time picturing the interface scaling well, but I'm guessing somebody has done it already, and I've got a client who's hoping to go that direction. Would prefer not to copy cover-flow, as one of the key requirements of the interface is that only one card is visible at a time.

I've got a HUGE blank wall that is up high in my two story family room. I've had the idea to create a Rube Goldberg treatment on the wall, but I need help with specific ideas. There's a place where one can trip a trigger by launching a ball or some such on the second floor, but no way to easily maintain a mechanism that would require resetting. Help me crowd source some mechanics that will set this f*cker off! [more inside]

I'm a midcareer technical professional who is learning Swift and building an iOS app that I plan to release for free. I'm not much of a designer and I don't really want to be one; I'm used to working with staff designers and implementing their designs. What are some places where I can try to enlist free or cheap design help? [more inside]
The KORG minilogue is a really sweet modular, analogue synthesiser. It must, I think, have a hybrid (digital / analogue) architecture, and that raises a bunch of UI / UX questions... [more inside]

I am working on a project that relies on different ways to present instructions. I want to collect as many ways as possible. These can be visual, written, or otherwise, but each 'type' of instruction must have a design aesthetic or formulaic quality that is particular to it. So, for instance, recipes are usually laid out in a certain way; architectural blueprints have a design that we all recognise, as do maps, exploded diagrams, algorithms, technical schematics, toolkits... Can you help me think of more?
Tattoofilter: I have a bunch of moles. I'm considering turning them into a constellation. That's great, you say, just draw some lines between them. That's cute, I say, but I don't want to do that. I want to decorate individual moles gradually over time, so the constellation changes. Help me brainstorm small delicate designs that meet some or all of the following criteria: [more inside]
We're looking to have our front yard re-done, and I'm not sure what type of person we need to hire. There are a variety of things that need to be done, and I'd like a single person to oversee it all, but I'm not sure what those people call themselves so I don't know what to search for. I'm looking for examples of well-designed scientific figures. As a materials scientist I've encountered many horrendous figures that are difficult to understand and read. I've read about collaborations between graphic design and physical science departments, which yield much more attractive and informative figures, but these examples are few and far between. I'm hoping to apply principles from good graphic design and data visualization to my own work. Are there any resources or websites where I can learn more about this?
Looking for blogs that focus on clean design, in both/either sense: aesthetically clean lined and clean in terms of low VOCs, easy to keep clean, etc. [more inside]

With so many choices of themes, how does one go about narrowing them down? I'm a bit overwhelmed by the myriad of choices. I understand that security, updates, and responsiveness are all important. I'm brand new to WordPress and want to get going on building my installation, but I'm really kind of stuck until I figure out this theme thing. Bonus Question: I do realize you get what you pay for when it comes to themes. Do you have any recommendations for reasonably priced ones?

What do Interior Designers talk about among peers? Looking for topics from logistical to theoretical. What is important to Interior Designers? If the inner circle of the top Interior Designers went out for a drink, what would they discuss? What is the culture of Interior Design like?

I am doing a major re-haul of the 8x11 tattered paper signage in my public library that indicates where things are in my library. For example, the shelves in the 500's with books on biology, astronomy, and general science are labeled, un-surprisingly, "science"; I'm thinking about changing that one to "Life, the Universe, and Everything." Are there better ideas out there? [more inside]

I live in a mid-size apartment (1,313 sq ft). The current layout of the apartment consists of a large square-shaped living/dining area, and doors along one wall leading to the bedrooms. I'm thinking of adding a full height shelf in order to create a corridor leading to the bedrooms, in order to add more separation between the two areas. But this will cut down on the spaciousness and openness of my living area. Is it worth it? Are there any architectural/design concepts that I can look at to help me decide? [more inside]

The Muji stores in Palo Alto and San Jose (possibly others) have a stamp station where you can stamp their stationary, bags, etc. One of the self-inking stamps is an elephant. I want that stamp because it's awesome. But it is not for sale by Muji, and I was unable to locate their source (their employees didn't know either). Does anyone know if I can purchase these stamps, and if so, where?
