Third week of therapy. My psychiatrist has let me talk for 2 hours so far and not offered anything much in the way of a response to anything I say. I feel like I am spending a lot of effort and money to talk to a blank wall. Is this normal or should I be seeking a different therapist? [more inside]

My mom has always had high anxiety, been prone to fear and pessimism, and has tended to focus on her fears in a very repetitive, verbal way that is often tiring to those around her. Her situation has worsened recently for several reasons. I want to help her find help. This question is both about therapy in general and for recommendations in San Diego in particular. [more inside]

I found an article where researchers experimented with online self-managed coginitive-behavioral therapy (http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/566048).
Does such a system exist online?

I'm a male in my early twenties who has washed out of college and is looking for a mental health professional of some sort in Northern Virginia. Issues I feel are likely to come up are my (long-ago diagnosed) attention deficit disorder, depression, and some form of OCD - I have a deep and (likely irrational) fear of psychosis and other impairments of cognition. I am deeply wary of psychiatric drugs, and want to work with someone who shares my attitude toward them, but would recommend them as a last resort. So what I'm after is some sort of talk therapy, preferably with a medical doctor (as oppose to "just" a PhD). [more inside]

I know I need therapy, and I intend to get it as soon as my health insurance comes through in a few weeks. I'm under a lot of strain from a pending divorce and various related financial issues. I'm not just depressed, but I have the attention span of a gnat and I get caught in horrible, tormenting chains of obsessive thoughts. This is really crippling my ability to work and bill my customers, leading to more financial stress, leading to more emotional stress, etc. What solid things can I do in the short term to focus, work and get things done without pacing, obsessing and crying a lot? Help me help my boyfriend. My boyfriend is caring, supportive and great in all the ways that matter, but I think he's depressed, and it's gotten past the point where he's willing to talk about it. He's said several times that he feels there's no way out, and while he's had brief spells of depression in the past and has been able to pull himself out of them, I'm worried that this time it's too deep for him to do it alone. what should i take to a psychiatrist? i'm 33, have recently separated from work, never had a relationship and am seeing him for depression. i've had four sessions, and he's asking me to bring in things so he gets a better idea of who i am. i didn't think to ask what (i will) but i figure creative things eg: my folio with paintings/drawings/artwork is a start. what would you recommend?
