Wisdom teeth partially left in (or my molars are very sharp)

I had my wisdom teeth out 15 years ago and I've always thought my back molars felt sharp or like there was some jagged tooth behind my molars. I perpetually forget to do my dentist about it but aren't sure if they would see left over wisdom teeth bits in an x-ray or visual exam. [more inside]

I had a root canal Tuesday and am now traveling and in pain. Any advice?

I have a high pain tolerance and have had multiple root canals in the past with no problems. Tuesday I had a root canal with a temporary filling and on Thursday my jaw around that tooth started to hurt. I don't think it's infected (no swelling, no smell or visible problems, plus my endodontist said he packed the tooth with antibiotics). But it hurts, a lot. Help! [more inside]

What to do about a broken tooth away from my insurance area?

I'm visiting my partner's family in Southern Oregon for the next ~3 weeks. Last night, I broke a tooth (my first molar, lower right). I have insurance in Minnesota via the state exchange, but I haven't been able to find anyone here who takes it, or who is willing to talk about it after they find out I have free insurance. I probably need a crown, but is there some temporary procedure I could request for the interim so I don't do more damage/get an infection? Is there some easier way to find dentists besides calling everyone from Yelp/the Yellow Pages? [more inside]

Finding a good dentist, setting aside a recent bad experience: how do?

After seeing the same dentist for the entire 24 years of my dentist visiting history, I have emigrated to Canada and can no longer receive care from him. Unfortunately seeing a new dentist was a seriously unpleasant experience and I'm now faced with having to do the 'first visit' over and over until I find someone who doesn't make me go home and cry. Abscess or just sore swollen dental ligaments?

After a filling was replaced and ground down a couple of times recently, I have a tooth that is very sore to the touch, but does not ache on its own. The gum beside it is swollen and tender and soft, and if i make myself bite down it feels spongy under the tooth. The dentist says he can get me in again in a week. Is this an abscess? Do I need to push to get in faster? [more inside]

Dentist: Do I go or not?

I went to the dentist for an emergency appointment on Tuesday after getting an excruciating toothache, and left with two fillings. That night, the toothache returned. I waited a day in case it was due to the surgery, and yesterday contacted the dentist to ask for an appointment, which I have in 90 minutes. Since then, the toothache has vanished completely aside from some very minor lingering tenderness. Do I still go, or do I cancel?

Tender gums with no bleeding or swelling?

tl;dr: Starting last night I suddenly began experiencing gum pain when I floss, as well as some pain when chewing on a old root canal tooth (and the flossing-induced gum pain is especially noticeable in this area). However, there is no bleeding at all and my gums look pink in the mirror. What's going on? Can it wait until my routine cleaning next week? [more inside]

Skin thing in my mouth

I was at the dentist this morning, my first appointment with this particular dentist. She told me that the little skin connector between my gum and upper lip is particularly tight, and it's gradually pulling my two front teeth apart. She says it's easily snipped with a laser. I've never heard of such a thing and I'm kind of mystified that no other dentist has brought this to my attention. [more inside]

Advice on getting last minute appointment with new dentist

Last night bonding that filled in a sizable part of my front tooth (chipped in childhood) fell out. It is not too painful (just sensitive to hot and cold) so is certainly not a dental emergency, but is very noticeable and I'd like to have it addressed ASAP. I have recently moved to a new area and have not yet had a routine cleaning with a local dentist, though I have a recommendation from a friend. I called that office and a few others covered by my insurance this morning but they all appear to be closed over the weekend. Will a new dentist see me with little notice to fix the issue if I am not a current patient? Also is the best approach to leave a message now or call early Monday? Or do I need to contact my last dentist (who I didn't particularly like and who is a 35 minute drive) for better luck getting a last minute appointment?

Post or crown or something else?

My partner (28 years old) had, on the same upper back-ish tooth, two failed root canals followed by a tooth extraction. They're still waiting for the extraction to heal. But they told us that a post is impossible since his bone is too thin. I hear a crown requires root canalling neighboring teeth, which we really don't want. Can we just leave it as is without teeth shifting significantly? Is there another option that doesn't requiring destroying MORE teeth? [more inside]

Missing teeth at ten - what do?

YANMson's dentist. His bones are all fine, but his on-the-small-side mouth is equipped with two less than the regulation 32 teeth: one pre-molar missing upper right, and one pre-molar lower left.
