Help me understand Intravenous re-hydration?

What is in the re-hydration IV's at the end of ironman triathlons? What is in the rehydration IV they give post alcohol poisoning in the ER? Why does my book say it's better to eat/drink then to take IV? [more inside]

Failures in Hydration, Cream Edition

Like this questioner here, I too am a grown-ass woman who fails at hydration. However, I do find that I am more willing to guzzle down creamy drinks, such as milk or hot chocolate. Are those enough to hydrate me, will I die from too much milk, and what other drinks will help fulfil both the cream craving and the hydration? [more inside]

Why am I dehydrated?

The last few years it seems I've had to drink more water to stay hydrated; I drink, on average, 3.5 liters a day (0.92 gallons), more if I exercise, and still I'll wake up with a mild headache and mild nausea from dehydration about two days a week. [more inside]

I would like to obey my thirst, but...

I would like to obey my thirst, but... I recently realised I don't seem to get thirsty when I should. I had to take a tablet and grabbed a glass of water to do so. As soon as I began drinking I felt desperately thirsty and drank a second glass. But I swear if you'd asked me a minute before, I'd have said I wasn't thirsty. In this thread, people are saying it's healthy to drink before you start feel thirst. But I don't seem to feel it much at all. [more inside]
