What's the deal with the MSL degree?

Goes by several names: Master of Studies in Law, Master of Legal Studies, Master of Science in Law. Wikipedia says: "a master's degree offered by some law schools to students who wish to study the law but do not want to become attorneys." I'd never heard of such a degree until recently -- is it present in the public consciousness? I read MBA or MFA and I have intuition for what those involve, but not so much MSL. [more inside]

Should I Keep Working Toward My Masters in Social Work? Now or Later?

In a nutshell: I'm almost 38 years old, happily married, and am currently raising 3 kids (the youngest is 9). I work full-time at a job that I love – and that loves me back - but which doesn't pay particularly well. My husband's income compensates for that. We are decidedly middle class with some debts, low savings, and a mortgage. I have a (Canadian) college diploma in social services that's a little over 2 years old at this point. I am trying to decide whether to further my education - and whether to do it now or later. [more inside]

Worth it to pay the bills to get the skills?

Engineering master's degree: worth it in my special situation? I have an engineering BS, the MS would be in the same sort of engineering, and it would be free (sort of). I've been working in non-engineering academic research, but I want to get into industry R&D. [more inside]

So I actually CAN make money from home...

I'm looking for a fully online MA program in TESOL or a related field like Applied Linguistics, that is NOT meant for K-12 public school teaching, with the aim of professionalizing myself as an English tutor. I found the New School's program here, that would certainly cover all my bases, but I simply wouldn't be able to afford the cost. Can you help me find other options? [more inside]

Do I really need a Master's?

I work in the field of higher education/college access and retention. I'm sort of interested in getting my Master's in Higher Education Administration. My new job offers 80% tuition reimbursement for grad school classes at a local university. Logically, I know I should take advantage of this opportunity, and start taking classes next semester, but I have some reservations: [more inside]

How to convince employers that you are more than your job title?
