I'm a web designer/developer. I've been self taught my whole life, but now that I'm getting higher up in my career and more people interested in me as upper level management experience. I dropped out of college and taught myself everything I know. Now, though, I'm wondering if I need to go back to school for a degree to progress any higher.

I work in the field of higher education/college access and retention. I'm sort of interested in getting my Master's in Higher Education Administration. My new job offers 80% tuition reimbursement for grad school classes at a local university. Logically, I know I should take advantage of this opportunity, and start taking classes next semester, but I have some reservations:

I graduated college a while ago with one BA in the sciences, and just short of a second major in the social sciences (like two classes short). Given current job plans, I'd really like to have that social science degree as well. How can I complete it years after graduation?

What can a mid-career person (me) do for a year in a new city (Denver) that will be productive in the 12 months or so spent there? Are there Master's programs that you can either complete in one year, or spend a year on-site and then finish while living elsewhere? Or is something else a better option?

If someone has a 2002 college degree in Communications from a pretty good school, yet only achieved a 2.49 instead of the minimum of 2.5 now required to get into a teaching program, is it possible to go back and get another degree (in, say, history because the student had many courses in that subject) from the same or another school, just adding on the extra few courses and thus raising the GPA to an acceptable level?
If not, is there any way to boost a low GPA now aithout spending another 4 years in college???

This spring I will be finished with my second Master's degree. I've been at my current job for almost three years and while I enjoy it immensely, I am wondering about other opportunities that having two graduate degrees might open up for me. Am hoping to obtain answers especially from individuals who have multiple degrees and have gone into somewhat different career paths.

I'm looking for any distance education that has teachers, councilors and staff that CARE. A program new or old that is high tech and streaming video feed of lectures would be nice. If you received some distance education that is worth mentioning and you've enjoyed it or even better you've done 2 different schools online. PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Thanks.

I'm attending college soon, after having already been in the job market for over a decade. For quite awhile now, I've wanted to pursue a degree in Philosophy. The question of completing a degree simply for the sake of making my resume look better is actually not a major consideration in my return to education. I can't say that it doesn't factor in at all, however, so my question to the MeFi populace is: How does a major in Philosophy affect possible employment and salary ranges? Is the perception among employers that it is completely useless when applied to most fields or is there a recognition of its value in the job market?
