What degree/trade is worth the student loans?

I've got a little money I'm thinking about turning into some classes/training for a serious career change. With education at such a high price, I would need to pick a career/trade that can pay off the loans I would need to complete. I'm looking at trades, skilled craftwork, 2-year degrees, and 4-year degrees. Got any suggestions? [more inside]

Are you a neuroscientist? Happy in academia? Want to do science...

So I have been working in an entirely different field for the last years and was never entirely sure about what I wanted to do with my life. I am certain at this point that I want to work in a field which involves, you know, nervous systems. Unsurprisingly, I am thinking of academia. [more inside]

Should I perservere with my IT degree?

A year and a half ago, stuck in what I thought was a dead-end job, I decided to do a degree in computing/IT with the Open University. Six months later, I landed a job as a Test Analyst in the IT department of the company I was working for. I now have an actual career. I've been continuing with the degree, but I'm finding bits of it very dull and it's difficult to get motivated. Should I keep going? [more inside]

Should this Catastrophically Career-Confused Canadian accept the Bank Teller job offer or keep applying for something career-oriented?

I'm having trouble deciding on whether I should accept a job offer. I've been unemployed since about the middle of May of this year. I have a Bachelors degree in Business and am currently taking the CMA Accelerated Program, as my medium-term goal is to become an Accountant. I've had a couple of uninteresting jobs since graduation. My most recent job was as an English teacher(ish) for nine months in Quebec. I had a blast while I was there, but it's time to get my career on track before it careens off a cliff (if it's not already too late). [more inside]

Careers that require a two-year degree?

Mid-career job switcher. Unhappy with my current job and looking to make a switch into something more stable - probably in the medical field. Ideally, I'd like a job that requires an Associates Degree (two year program) rather than a Bachelor's Degree (four year program). A one-year certificate program is even better. What are my options? What further education do I need to be taken seriously as I re-enter the workforce?

I've been out of work for a number of years, by choice, staying at home to raise my kids. I have a Bachelor's in Education with a minor in English from back in 19mumblemumbleyear, and even if it were up-to-date, my life has taken a different turn, and I don't feel that teaching is for me any more. With this kind of background, if I don't teach, I am pretty much, as one of my English teachers once put it, an "educated un-employable."
