I am trying to find vintage/retro images from old childrens' books and other sources for my wedding invitations and save the date cards. Specifically I am interested in bunnies, deer or anything wilderness related and children with butterfly nets. I have googled endlessly to no avail. I keep getting these horrid clip art images ..i have seen flickr sets but nothing that suits my needs ..i will try to attach an example....please help!
Do you have any personal recipe recommendations for hamburger?

Can you help me come up with a recipe plan to use up this glut of hamburger that I have? I went deer hunting this year, and had good luck. This is great and all, but now I have ~30 lbs of ground venison (in addition to the steaks/roasts).

I'm looking for personal, specific recipe ideas/recommendations that you have featuring ground beef/venison so I can use all this up throughout the year. I will undoubtedly be making some into good-old-fashioned burgers and chili, but I would like some ideas to break it up a little.

Yes, there are plenty of recipes on the web, but this is MetaFilter after all.

The meat is vacuum packed and stored in a deep freeze, so safe storage through the year isn't much of a concern. Also, we mixed in a small amount of pork with some of it, so that it wouldn't be TOO lean.

Why are there so many dead deer bodies on the Merritt?

Why are there so many dead deer bodies on the side of the highway on the Merritt Parkway in CT? Do they die on the side of the road right before they prance onto the highway? They look too perfectly placed and appear to lack much bleeding to have been run over then moved aside. I know every once in a while you see a dead deer body on the side of the highway here and there. However, this weekend I drove down the Merritt Parkway from Milford into New York and saw at least 10 dead deer bodies on the side of the highway.

The bodies didn't look like they're run over and even if they are... do people who run over deer really have the time to back up to move the deer body aside? Especially at night when cars tend to speed down the Merritt... deer-hitters actually get out of their car to move the deer body aside risking the possibility of getting hit by a car themselves?

I know it was unusually hot this weekend (mid 90s) so maybe deers are passing out cause of the heat? But I also noticed the high body count of dead deers when I drove down in February when the temperature was in the 30s.

Deer hunting in New Mexico?

Deer hunting in New Mexico: your experiences or advice appreciated! I'm putting in for a deer tag (for deer taken by rifle; it will probably be a mule deer) here in New Mexico. I don't have any experience with deer hunting, so I'd like to hear from others who've hunted deer in NM. In particular, what's a good unit to put in for, and good areas within the unit to try? Does anyone have a lead on private-land hunting that doesn't involve outfitters and/or paying the landowner a ton of cash? I live in Espanola, but I'm willing to travel pretty much anywhere in the state. I haven't done this before, so general muley hunting advice is also welcome!

I'm not looking for a trophy... I just want to fill my freezer with venison, so I am not all that particular. I mainly want to maximize my chances of getting a tag/landowner's permission, and then have a decent chance of getting a deer. Thanks for any tips you can give me!

How to kill a deer

Short story research: what would your average, on the weekend hunter use to kill a deer (gun, bullets, etc)? What is the process after a deer is killed? What is taken, and how, and what is left? How long would it take for what is left to be gone?

Thank you!

Is hunting good for animal populations?

Growing up in West Virginia, which is a state where almost everyone hunts deer, I was constantly told that hunting was in the deers best interest. The rationale being that if the hunters didn't kill some of them off, there wouldn't be enough food to support the entire population, causing many of them to die off over the winter.

Looking around the internet, I haven't found anything that supports this idea. So i'm wondering if there is any truth to this, or if perhaps it is just something people made up to justify their animal killing hobby.

How to cook venison?

Does anyone have some cooking tips for Venison? I've never eaten or cooked it before...but last evening, my neighbor came over with venison for us to cook from his hunting trip. I have no idea where to start to make it a good meal. I have heard that venison can be very lean....any ideas?
