What happens and what to do when I hear my mom dies 1,500+ miles away. What will the landlord do in the short term? Where does her body go? What happens to the cat? The medical bills? How do I unload fine art?

My father passed away a few weeks ago - I'm the sole heir and designated executor of his will and it has been not too difficult a process even with my depression (partly because he prepared for it very well but also because he had almost nothing to leave me), but I still have worries...

Found out recently that an online friend had passed away 6 or 7 months ago. His real life relationships did not crossover w/ his online ones. What would be a good system to put in place in case I face a situation like this?

Someone died. Does her family have to keep paying the mortgage payments? Does interest keep accruing? Can they rent it out during this period? There was no will. (This is in California.)

WTF filter: My grandmother died in November. My uncle flew out to "help out"; he sifted through the belongings, and shipped a bunch of furniture back to his home in another province. Recently he presented my mom with a "bill" for all the expenses he incurred during the process of attending my grandmother's death, expecting to be paid back out of the estate, even though my grandfather (demented and unaware of everyday reality) is in a care facility, still living on that money. What now?
