I've been watching the Tour de France (thinking of starting a Phil Liggett drinking game, with phrases like "dancing on the pedals" and of course "lactic acid". Anyway, among the bunches of cars and motorcycles in various roles I've noticed one with the AG2R logo on the fairing. As they are also a team sponsor, that got my attention, but I can't figure out what that motorcycle is doing. No passenger, just a pilot on the motorbike, and no obvious role like medical, law enforcement, support*, or cameras. [more inside]

Driving from Brooklyn, NY to Emerald Isle, NC — via the NJ Turnpike, Delaware 1 and US-13, and Route 17 past Norfolk VA into NC. Anything truly worth checking out along the way, or taking a reasonable detour for? [more inside]

Dear French speaking Mefites: I am an idiot. I can't get the prepositions down! Knowing when to say "au" or "du" is KILLING me. I've made cheat sheets and have memorized most of the set phrases I can, but when I'm writing on my own I inevitably foul it up or blank. Can you help? [more inside]

I traveled through Ecuador for about 2 months, and in the process fell in love with Salsa de Aji, specifically the Salsa de Aji con Chochos, made by SNOB.
I cannot for the life of me find somewhere online to buy it (that ships within the U.S.). What would be the best way for me to find someone in Ecuador to get me some? I'm located in Los Angeles. I realize this could get expensive but right now I'm just trying to think if there's even a way I could do it.

Can anybody track down a version of "Tha ma ra boum de hé" or "Tah Rah Rah Boom Di Ay" performed on solo accordion (no vocals or anything)? A digital version is preferred but if I need to track down an old LP somewhere I'm willing to go on a quest.

I'm trying to buy a print from my favorite children's book, "The Rainbow Goblins", by Ul De Rico. How can I find this? I'm thinking typical poster size (18x24-ish).

I have just started reading 'The Mystery of Capital'
by the celebrated Peruvian economist, Hernando de Soto
. Having lived in Brazil for many years and seen, on a daily basis, the irrepressible entrepreneurial spirit of which he writes, I can relate to the book and whole-heartedly support the fundamental idea running through it that clearly-defined property rights and simplified procedures for starting new businesses represent the best solution to eradicating poverty in the Third World.
I have an 18,000-word Masters in International Business thesis to submit by June 2009. I'd appreciate your suggestions, Metafilter. [more inside]

Despite the recent corruption scandals in Brazil, for the first time since the 1970s, the country is finally showing signs that it is worthy of comparison with its BRIC counterparts. Inflation, the bane of the 1990s, has finally been largely reigned under control, interest rates have fallen to their lowest in living memory, the Brazilian Real continues to rise against the US dollar and BOVESPA - Latin America's largest and busiest stock exchange - continues to grow from strength to strength. I'm enjoying watching the Tour de France once again this year. I'm always amazed at the amount of vehicles, fans, support people and logistics involved in running this race every year. Has there ever been a documentary about the behind the scenes part of the race? I get little bits and pieces during the coverage, but I'd love to see more!
