If you're flying in to Reagan National Airport in DC with a baby and your own car seat, how do you get a cab to your hotel? Will the regular cabs at the cab stand be able to accommodate you, or should you reserve a car service or cab ahead of time? If the latter, can you recommend a company? [more inside]
No, I'm not a juggalo - just a guy living in the DC area with several friends from Michigan. I thought it might be fun to surprise some of my friends with Faygo redpop and homemade Superman ice cream at our next shindig. Problem is, I've had a hard time finding Faygo in the DC area. Any ideas? (The Faygo website has proven a dead-end.) [more inside]
I've enjoyed the discussion on this post about America's worst highways, but I have a particular interest in seeing the other side of the coin - I'm going to be driving from DC to San Francisco in early October (in a minivan full of everything I own that is too delicate/bulky/valuable to send by mail--it's not much but it's not nothing) and I want to know: what route is the least maddening? At least, which parts have better options than others? I'm going to take about a week at it (hoping to not do more than 7-8 hours of driving a day). Bonus points for suggesting ideal places (not far from the interstate) to start the day with an ~hourlong bike ride.
I'm looking for a restaurant for a large group in the Chinatown-Penn Quarter neighborhood of DC. [more inside]
We're not convinced that it'll work, either -- but going on 8 days past our due date, we're game for trying anything. Any suggestions on a bumpy road around the DC/Maryland metro area that we could drive along to try to get this labor thing going? Or maybe nearby farms that host hay rides this time of year (ideally one where we don't have to bring 25 of our closest friends)? [more inside]
What are some really magical and unusual places to visit/things to do with a 4-year-old for fun in DC? He's visited most of the usual museums/zoos etc. (including 826 DC) that would be good for kids. Also acceptable are magical and unusual things happening at one of the usual places :-).
Someone close to me has inherited a Yamaha grand piano, appraised by knowledgable tuner around $45,000. The owner needs as much of this money as she can get. How do we sell it? Is Craigslist okay for very-high-price sales? This is in the Washington DC area. [more inside]
Completely indecisive person seeking an end of September/early October 3-4 day trip from DC - short drive, train, or plane trip for around 1k. No idea where I want to go, but the only must is a room/balcony with a really beautiful nature view. [more inside]
I need some help processing a disturbing and scary interaction I had today with someone. [more inside]

Sadly the Ghana Cafe is closed, and now my dad and I need a new venue to watch Ghana vs USA tomorrow. Hoping to find a place with fans of both teams, a clear view of the TV without jostling or dodging, and preferably Tusker or other African beer available. Any recommendations, DC mefites?
What should be my nephew check out while he's going to school in Washington, D.C.? [more inside]

I'm looking for a GREAT primary care physician in Washington, DC, preferably in/near Chinatown or Capitol Hill. I'd love someone who could see a new patient in the next week or two (ie, doesn't have a months-long waiting list) and who is part of a larger practice/clinic. [more inside]
Is there a site that tracks events happening on the National Mall? [more inside]
I will have an internship this summer at a political firm in DC that makes software for one of the two political parties. I will be a creative intern prototyping and designing interfaces for the campaign tools they create. If you were me, what sort of things would you do to get the most out of your internship? I'm trying to plan a last-minute backpacking trip this weekend. I'm looking for suggestions for a good 2-day (~12-16 mile) circuit hike that's within a 2 hour drive of Washington, DC. [more inside]
Hi, wonderful Mefites! I am thinking of driving from DC to New York City for a wedding next Thursday (the 22nd). Google tells me that driving time (from DC to an address on W 159th) is just shy of 4 hours. Considering that this will be a weekend, and holiday weekend, what is a more realistic driving time? (extra driver snowflakes inside) [more inside]
I live in DC. Sometime soon after Labor Day, I'll be relocating to Charlotte, NC. I'm sure I'll have plenty of wailing detailed questions about this as the time approaches [and after!], but it's happening [and it's very good for my career. I'm calling it a new adventure]. Should I buy a car here in DC or once I'm in Charlotte? [more inside]
A friend and his family are driving from North Carolina to Washington, DC. I'm going to drive down from Baltimore to meet them for dinner on Friday evening, but I hate going into central DC, so we've agreed to meet in a more northerly region: perhaps Bethesda, Silver Spring or College Park. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with that area, so AskMe, where should we have dinner? It'll be a party of four adults and three small children at about eight-ish on a Friday night. It should be someplace we can relax and have a leisurely conversation. Easy driving and parking is important. Thanks for the suggestions!
I've been reading Scouting NY ever since Slap*Happy's post about Willets Point and loving it the descriptions of bizarre landmarks, unusual neighborhoods, and hidden bits of history and culture in NYC. What are the equivalent places in Washington, DC? [more inside]
I'd like to celebrate my SOs upcoming grad school graduation by taking him on a cute surprise trip. We are in the greater DC metro area and I would really like to get out of DC, but can only do one or two nights over the weekend. My SO is not much of city person, or else I would probably do NYC. Ideally it would be no more than 3 hours by car; or alternatively I am open to a flight or train ride that is not too long. We previously did Asheville NC and really enjoyed it. Charlottesville is close to what I think I am looking for, but we go there frequently already. Any ideas? My SO really enjoys things related to Architecture and Landscape Architecture if that helps.
About to buy a car in DC, but how? [more inside]
Are there campgrounds in the DC area (within an hour) that allow alcohol and catering on site? Trying to plan a party for someone where everyone can spend the night and camp out if they have too much to drink. [more inside]
I lost a lot of weight, and am looking for a plastic surgeon recommendation in the Alexandria, VA/DC area to help with some skin removal and breast reconstruction. [more inside]
I'm looking to take an intro to statistics class this fall or summer. I'd be up for taking it online or in person, if in person it would have to be in or near Washington DC. It could either be an undergraduate or graduate class, but not one where you have to know calculus. Has anyone taken a good introduction to statistics class in the DC area or online that they could recommend?
My favorite place in the entire world is Philadelphia's exquisite and incomparable Mütter Museum, I've seen Body Worlds more than a dozen times... and you should probably refrain from clicking either of those links if you are squeamish. I will soon be spending a week in NYC followed by a week in Washington, DC. Can you help me make a list of similar museums, exhibits, and collections to visit while I'm there? [more inside]
Looking for tips on making the best of summer in Washington, DC. [more inside]
A relative of mine needs to get from the Southwest area of Washington DC, to Union Station, around 3am tonight/Monday am. I haven't been here very long, and I've only caught cabs in cab ranks from the airport or flagged one down, never called one for a late-night pickup, so I don't know what's best. Looking at Yelp for taxicabs, they're full of zero-to-one star reviews and horror stories. So please help! How can I best and most reliably get someone from southwest DC to Union Station in the wee hours?
Please hope me, DC mefites! Looking for two things for a birthday party TOMORROW: the Thames and Kosmos perfume kit and Harry Potter chocolate frogs and Bertie Bots every flavor beans. [more inside]
I volunteered to plan an event for Saturday, 3/29 that will include dinner for about 40 adults. For the most part, planning is in good shape, but we still need a caterer. We're probably looking at a budget of $300-400, serving around 9pm, no booze. There may be a possibility of using the venue's caterer, but I want to get a feel for fallback options. Anyone out there have a good caterer for me, or advice around hiring caterers in general? I have never done this before.
A friend will be travelling to D.C. on business later this week and is thinking of getting a nightcap one night at a local gay bar. She is wondering if anyone would be able to recommend a ladies friendly pub close to Union Station? She's staying at the Phoenix Park Hotel. TIA
My family and I are set to travel by train to DC for a week of enrichment during our Mardi Gras break. The weather looks like it has the potential to close museums etc. and make us fairly uncomfortable for the significant walking from place to place. We could cancel it all and set out for something warmer tomorrow, but is my concern overblown? We're going tomorrow through Friday. The potential for closures and outages is the biggest factor, I guess.
My wife and I would like to spend a nice Saturday going for a hike with our dog (nothing too taxing - we want to enjoy the outdoors, not get a workout) and also go for brunch in a charming small town nearby. We live in DC and would prefer not to drive more than an hour each way to get there. Any suggestions??
I will be subleasing my room in Cambridge (MA) and subletting in DC this summer. I know next to nothing about subleasing/subletting in either place and have many questions, including how to price my somewhat strangely set-up room. [more inside]
Right now I'm at the airport, waiting to fly into DC, and just realized I forgot my charger. I'll see what I can pick up at my layover, but I would like to a) not fry my laptop and b) continue to use my laptop. I would like to buy the charger after checking into my hotel. I will not have a car. Relevant facts: 1) The X220 is the small Lenovo Thinkpad (not touchscreen.) 2) Staying in Dupont Circle 3) No car
Myself and a group of like-minded ladies are in the throes of creating a feminist hackerspace in DC. We're at the point where we need to name ourselves, and haven't been able to get too far off the ground with brainstorming. [more inside]

When I was a kid in the mid-80s, I had a DC annual that was printed in the UK. Because of the unique way these things were cobbled together (they'd reprint whatever they could get with little regard to continuity), I have no idea how the story ended. For some reason, this is currently doing my head in, so can anyone point me in the right direction? Barely remembered details inside... [more inside]
Looking for recommendations for a CBT therapist in Washington, DC preferably near Chinatown/MetroCenter/Union Station/NoMA. Ideally takes BlueCross insurance. [more inside]
I am thinking of buying a nice framed photo that is recognizably DC (landmarks, cherry blossoms, etc., or something more creative) as a wedding gift. I looked at Art.com and everything was pretty generic, 'obvious' and postcard-looking. I'd love to find a photo that is a bit more unique, or even perhaps a cool framed graphic print. My budget is not awesome: I am looking to spend under $300. Any recommendations of websites/photographers/artists I should check out?
I'm looking for some help finding job search resources for a field that, at least as far as I know, doesn't have a super specific name. I'm interested in looking for communications-y type jobs that are specifically in science-y environments or that work with science-y content. Bonus points for resources specific to Washington, DC or Baltimore. [more inside]
We're shopping for a mortgage (in the DC area), and are feeling anxious and frustrated that 1) it's so hard to know who we'll end up with because so many lenders/originators are likely to sell our loan and/or servicing after closing, and 2) it's easy to find complaints about most servicers out there and hard to find anyone that's satisfied. What has your experience been like with the place(s) that own and/or service your mortgage? Or should we put all that to the side and just try to find someone with the best rates/fees and the best reviews/recommendations regarding smooth and quick closing? [more inside]
I will be visiting my family in the Baltimore/DC area for the holidays. As a present I would like to make my parents a really fabulous, gourmet dinner. Please point me to the stores with the best selections of seafood, veggies, and cheese! [more inside]

My husband and I have the opportunity to be dropped off at the Metro (red line, Glenmont side) at around 11:00am and picked back up there around 5:30-6:00pm on Friday 11/29, the day after Thanksgiving. What should we do? What's open? [more inside]
