Restaurant recommendations near Dupont Circle (Washington DC)?

I moved to DC recently-ish, but haven't explored the restaurant scene very well. Now I have a friend coming to town next week, staying right near the Dupont Circle Metro station, and I could use some recommendations for places to eat. Can any locals help me out? We're both omnivores, and while I'd prefer economical options, I don't think we're averse to considering something pricier if it comes highly recommended.

There was a previous question about Dupont Circle-area eats from 2011, but since the top contender in those answers has apparently closed by now, I'd love to get some more recent input. Please help me be a good host!

Need help with restaurants in Washington DC please.

Need help with two types of restaurants in Washington DC please. I am going to be in downtown DC on a business trip next week and have been given the task of finding places for us to eat. We will be staying near the National Mall.

Personally I like interesting, ethnic, hole-in-the-wall places... Indian, Thai, even vegetarian... but I also need more mainstream options since I am going with others who are less adventurous foodies.

So I need two sets of recommendations... restaurants I can go to with my coworkers (Chinese, steak, Italian, American, burgers, deli, etc) that are and interesting places I can go for my one or two meals on my own. For both categories, we wouldn't want anything too touristy, too fancy or too too far from the National Mall area.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

dupont dinner

DC restaurant recommendation in Dupont - looking for a quieter place for a work dinner I need to set up a work dinner and would like to find a place that is nice and somewhat fun but still quiet so that we can talk about work. I was thinking about Tabard Inn or Circa, but they both seem too loud. Any ideas?

Washington DC, get in my belly & iPhone

Spending a long weekend in D.C. Looking for off the beaten path restaurant, app suggestions & other recommendations. I'm going to DC later in May for the first proper visit since I was a teenager. Looking forward to seeing the museums, monuments, etc. and have done my homework on that front but now I'm hungry. I've skimmed through most of these and didn't see anything current so I thought I'd ask here.

I'm looking for recommendations for a nice dinner for a Fri. or Saturday night. Not necessarily fancy, but a nice experience to connect it with our trip as my travel partner & I enjoy doing. As a point of reference, we went to Jardin Nelson while in Montreal last summer. Only real criteria is no chain that we could get at home (NYC) or in most other cities. No dietary requirements as we're both pretty much omnivores. Metro accessible preferred, but we will have access to a car, if needed.

Also, I've looked through the app store . I've bookmarked these two questions and am generally reading up on tourism info. If there's an app you recommend or something we must see that we might not have found, feel free to let me know. We love the arts and history and know fully well that we can't see DC in one weekend but we'll see what we can. As far as apps, I love "NYC Way" and "Exit Strategy" - are there comparable ones for DC?

Thanks!

Seeking Washington DC bars and restaurants that are great for groups

Can you list some bars and restaurants in DC that would be good for a group of 10-12, all 21+? I'm open to making reservations, but a) bars probably don't take them and b) it would also be nice to be able to descend on a location or two in a more impromptu fashion as the weekend develops. Neighborhoods and other relevant details within. A contingent of friends is visiting this weekend, and we'd like to take them out and show them the town. We've got access to cars, buses, metros, and walking, and I think we've got entertainment/tourist-y things covered.

However, we won't be eating or drinking at my tiny place, so I'm looking for meals and drinks from Friday evening through Sunday morning.

Bonus points for places with a fantastic beer list. For instance, I would love to take the group to Churchkey or Red Derby on Saturday afternoon or evening, but I know both get very crowded, standing room is scarce, and I fear a group of 12 would be a bit much. I'd hate to truck everyone down there and then not have a backup plan. Nellie's is also definitely a possibility, though I'd lean towards saving that locale for Sunday brunch.

Neighborhoods in order of preference: Shaw/Eckington/LeDroit/Bloomingdale; U St Corridor; Adams Morgan; H St/Atlas; Columbia Heights/Petworth; Dupont.

I'm also looking at this helpful Yelp list.

Where to eat, drink, and type in D.C.?

I'll be in Washington D.C. from December 26th to the 31st. I'm staying at the Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park. Please tell me about cheap vegetarian eats, good coffee shops and bars, and free wifi in my neighborhood and elsewhere. I can figure out the tourist sites on my own--what I need are tips on how to eat and drink at fun, inexpensive places when I'm out. So far I've heard about Tryst in Adams-Morgan. But I need some more recommendations. I'm also interested in the U Street scene, from what I've heard of it. Where can I eat, drink, and connect to the net down there?

Also, is there any go-to blog or website that posts info about indie concerts, dance parties, etc.?

Looking for a Lunch Break on Our Drive North?

We are looking for the best food-related stops on our drive from Washington D.C. to central Connecticut. We normally take 95 to the NJ Turnpike to the Garden State Parkway to the Tappen Zee Bridge to 84, but would make a small detour for something worthwhile. This would ideally be a stop for lunch and would be something like 3 or 4 hours into the trip.

We like any type of food, so long as it's worth a special trip.

Romantic, vegetarian, and not swamped?

Need recommendations for decently classy, vegetarian-friendly restaurants in DC that might still take a Valentine's Day reservation. Nora is out, so I'm looking for suggestions - we have a very new baby, and I fell down on the job on this w/the resulting busyness. Help us have the quiet evening together that we could *really* use right now!

Foodie while in DC?

Delicious places to eat in Washington D.C.? (especially on or near the American, George Washington, or Georgetown campuses) I'm going to D.C. this weekend to visit some schools, and I'd love to here some recommendations on where to eat while I'm there. I'll probably need to get lunch while I'm visiting American and George Washington, and dinner somewhere in Georgetown.

I like all types of food really, so any (cheapish) places for lunch are good, cool coffee shops or other cool places on/near any of the campuses are also welcome.

For dinner, my Dad likes more American/European type food, so any recommendations in Georgetown that fit that would fit that bill would be welcome. Around $20-$30 would be preferable.

My hotel's 2505 Wisconsin Avenue, Georgetown.

Thanks so much everyone, let me know if I need to clarify anything!

Interesting restaurants in DC?

We'll be in DC in the first week in August, and we're looking for restaurant suggestions. Good food and an interesting experience are our top criteria; cheap to moderately expensive is okay - but not interested in stuffy or super-expensive fine dining. We've looked through websites and guides, but thought the hive mind might have some experiences to share. Many thanks!

Mother's Day on I-95

Mother's Day lunch, somewhere between DC and Richmond? My wife and I are flying back to Virginia this weekend, and taking our respective mothers our for lunch -- hers lives in the DC area, mine a little more southerly, so we're looking for a good restaurant somewhere in between. It doesn't have to be gourmet, but someplace reasonably nice that takes reservations would be good. Thanks for any advice!
