Driving Around Dublin: SO and I will be visiting Ireland (Dublin and Cork) for about a week and half right after Christmas and we'll have a car. What are some fun, interesting day trips from the two cities (or stops along the way between them?)

My husband and I are headed to Salt Lake City next week for a ski vacation—except that he just tore his Achilles tendon. Needless to say, him skiing is now out of the question. Please help cheer him up with recommendations for interesting drives, day trips from SLC, anywhere cool that he can sit and read or people-watch, and awesome places to eat.

What day trips from NYC will give me a taste of middle America and/or red state culture? Big malls, Big Gulps, big cars with Bush-Cheney decals... What places are the cultural opposite of "liberal elite" Manhattan yet still close to Manhattan?

Thanks to riding Chicago's L system so often I can sense my stop in my (literal) sleep, I think I'm finally ready to tackle Los Angeles' underutilized & unappreciated
Metro & Metrolink system for some day trips between Ventura County and LA proper. What are some can't miss attractions that are A) easily accessable by rail in a city of cars and B) fairly safe for a tiny semi-lost solo female and C) totally awesome?

I'm looking for your favorite blogs about things to do in or around the twin cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) or in Minnesota in general.

Please recommend me some day/weekend trip destinations from NYC, especially if they involve trains and don't require renting a car.

NewYorkVirginFilter: I'm going to New York on business in early August, and I'll have two blocks of time free: 4pm - midnight-ish, and 8am - 2pm the following morning. I am so clueless.
