I have an Excel Spreadsheet (using Excel 2003). Rather than creating formulas to answer ad hoc questions that I have, I would like to be able to quickly type in a SQL querty against the data in the spreadsheet. So, I could scroll down to the bottom of the sheet to see how many rows I have, OR I could type" select count(*) from data_table" instead. I prefer the latter. Any suggestions?

Has anyone ever managed to use iTunes and COM to access the iTunes database and modify MP3 meta-data tags? I need to change the genre for every track by a certain artist and since I have a list of over 800 artists, it is not something I can do by hand.

I'm making a contact database for the first time in Filemaker. I've got a field where I'm entering useful tags. I want to make a front end for this system in the form of a tag cloud. Since I'm so new to Filemaker, I don't know if this is useful or possible -- all I know is Google's never heard of such a thing.

I'm about to set up a database (pet science project) that has about 200 million records consisting of about 50 mostly-numeric fields. Is mysql up to this task? If not, what is? And since many fields are null, how can it be optimized to consume the least possible disk space? I'm worried about bloat eating up my 100 GB drive.

MySQL Hell: I've spent most of my vacation trying to figure out why MySQL has gone nuts. It's part of a Movable Type install with tons of posts, comments, and log entries, and it's always run smoothly before. The problem is that it'll bomb on random queries, seemingly every minute or two, since status queries always show uptime in tens of seconds. Repairing the larger tables and restarting the server has done nothing, and no major changes have been made. What's wrong? Is this a *nix issue, a MySQL issue, or an MT issue? And how do I go about telling the difference, or fixing any of them?

My website is hosted by Dreamhost. It primarily consists of a Movable Type weblog that I keep for family and friends. A few others have weblogs on my MT installation. I use the Berkely DB option and MT 2.661 (for licensing reasons). Suddenly today I am unable to login. Comments result in an odd error. When I attempt to recover my password, I get an 'invalid username' error. To me, it appears the database has become corrupt. HELP! Can the database be saved? Does anyone have experience with a similar blogtastrophe?

I want to create an online document database containing text, video, audio, and image files searchable by category (Such as War > Vietnam > Napalm Footage), keywords (Such as grainy, color, etc.) and, for text, a full-text search. And I'd like to be able to define a number of other custom fields (such as Source, Date, etc.), with the ability to search as many or as few fields as I'd like. And I would also like the ability to browse by category.
Anything out there that meets these standards, preferably using PHP and MySQL?

I have a MySQL database that contains two fields - name and e-mail - for a bunch of records. Separately I have a FileMaker 7 database that contains the same fields - name and e-mail -
and contains other fields, like "notes".
My question: can the FileMaker database, after polling the MySQL database, show name and e-mail as read-only; and then show the other fields as editable? i.e. if I make a change to the MySQL database, can I get it to show up in FM?

Can someone please help me understand how a database for a site like 43 Things (www.43things.com) works? There are users, tags for categories, user comments (for categories), and comments that can be associated with other comments. I understand that you would need a user table, a comments table, and a tags table but how do you create a schema for a site like this that works effectively? What kind of table structure is needed and how do the tables interrelate?

Routers: This may seem rather silly to some folks, but I need a little help in figuring out what my network problem is. (I tried to google around, but i am not even sure what the term is that I should be searching for) The problem is, I am hosting my own web-server and MySQL DB for development purposes, and I have a domain name that points to it. When I am outside my own network I can hit my URL just fine. But when I inside my network, it always try to go to the routers configuration page. Any ideas as how to make sure the router is forwarding the ports correctly INSIDE my network?

I'm looking for information about home prices that have recently sold. Specifically, I'd like to find some sort of database that can make it easy for me to get comparables for any given property. Even more ideally, if it could compare a resource of available properties, and flag when their comparable value is under the market, that would be fantastic. Any thoughts on this, or how I could put this together?
