I maintain for my company a spreadsheet that contains a list of vendors and their associated information: address, contact(s), service area(s), service(s), website, and so on. It's becoming rather unwieldy as a vendor might have up to 5 different services, 2 addresses, 3 contacts each with their own email and phone number, etc. The information's all there, it's just very annoying to use.
I had the idea of creating an "intranet" type website that staff could use to filter vendors by name, service area, service type, and so on, with the results displaying in an easy-to-read format (easier than a mile-long Excel sheet, anyway). I am open to solutions like Wordpress and Joomla, just not sure how best to implement. Any ideas? [more inside]

I tried to search a database at the place I volunteer with REGEX, but it didn't work. The database interface has some built-in options to search, so I have been messing with those trying to figure out what conventions it will allow. Can you tell me what this is? [more inside]

You may be familiar with Dj Tomcraft and his song Loneliness. I'm searching for those exact same lyrics, but closer together and the song has more... tempo? [more inside]

I use DevonThink and have decided it's a bit of overkill for my purposes.
I'd prefer to do this locally, but I'd consider an online solution. I am not, however, looking for a glorified bookmark service. I want something that copies pages and makes them available for searching and reading within the application.
Oh yeah, it's for OS X.

Looking for an online music database, music search engine which would allow me to filter musical acts by genre and their country of origin (Canada, specifically). Is there a site out there like AllMusic
offering this? I've looked in vain for filtering of this sort from these and other musical databases. [more inside]

I'm trying to find an online database or wiki that is devoted solely to music in film. I'm looking for a site where I can either search for a piece of music and find out what films that piece of music appeared in, or search for a film and find out what music appeared in that film. Does this site exist?

Where should I search in order to generate a list of all/most books published (in English, for the past 20 years or so) about a particular topic? I have a feeling that using Amazon plus my local library isn't giving me comprehensive results. Is there some kind of all-libraries database? Or all books that have been issued ISBN numbers?

I want to create an online document database containing text, video, audio, and image files searchable by category (Such as War > Vietnam > Napalm Footage), keywords (Such as grainy, color, etc.) and, for text, a full-text search. And I'd like to be able to define a number of other custom fields (such as Source, Date, etc.), with the ability to search as many or as few fields as I'd like. And I would also like the ability to browse by category.
Anything out there that meets these standards, preferably using PHP and MySQL?

So I've got a stack of CDs with all kinds of miscellaneous data, but most importantly, 5 GBs plus of .pst files from Outlook. Is there an easy and/or cost-efficient way of aggregating these files into a searchable database?
