Looking for an online music database, music search engine which would allow me to filter musical acts by genre and their country of origin (Canada, specifically). Is there a site out there like AllMusic or Last.fm offering this? I've looked in vain for filtering of this sort from these and other musical databases. [more inside]

I'm trying to find an online database or wiki that is devoted solely to music in film. I'm looking for a site where I can either search for a piece of music and find out what films that piece of music appeared in, or search for a film and find out what music appeared in that film. Does this site exist?

Is there a website that categorizes songs by mood or subject? Searching iTunes for title words and hoping the title then corresponds to the lyrics/mood doesn't always give the best results. [more inside]

I have a data set of approximately 9,000 hip-hop tracks. It's in an Excel file. I have the song title, the artist, and the album. Now I just need the year. How can I find and automatically import the year into the Excel file without manually looking up every track on Google? Is there a way to do this with MusicBrainz or a similar database?

What classical music databases exist? I'm not looking for lists or even data. I am looking for relational database DDL that describes/implements a structure sufficient to describe/model classical music. Or, if you don't know of such a database, classical aficionados, give me advice on how to implement such a database. [more inside]

I'd like to run a FreeDB server on my Windows box at home so I don't have to stay connected to the internet to get the track listings for the CD's I want to upload into iTunes. However, although I can find a zillion FreeDB aware clients, I'm having difficulty finding a native Windows version of the server. Does such a thing exist? [more inside]

I have been given the task of looking up the year-of-release for a large number (~8000) songs. Many of these titles are European, Latin American, and South American. Allmusic.com is okay, but slow and not as comprehensive as I require--esp. for uncommon titles. I'd bet that I have to find some specialized databases. Anyone have a suggestion?

Are there any good online web services where you enter musical artists that you currently like, and it figures out what artists you would probably also like (based on what other people have entered)?

I'm looking for a program that will catalog my music collection as a webpage. I'd like something that alphabetically lists artists, and each artist entry can be expanded to list songs. Preferably the program would work from an M3U playlist or based off my file structure (songs are in folders according to artist).
