Stop my messenger bag from sliding down?

I have a Timbuk2 messenger bag. When I ride with it on, it wants to slip down to the right under my right arm. What can I do to make it more friction-y or tacky on the back, such that it is not so slidey? [more inside]

Separating the men from the boys' bikes on Queen St. W.

For approximately the last ten years, whenever I have been down on Toronto's Queen Street West, I notice a number of very young men (age 18 to 21 give or take) riding boys' bicycles, sometimes with the seat jacked way up, but just as often not. Is there some reason why these young men are riding bicycles more suitably sized for a ten-year-old? I mean, any practical reason other than it being some sort of "Queen St. thing" and a trend? Perhaps such bicyles are cheaper, or easier to store, or there's some advantage when one is riding them? Or they've had some kind of freakish overnight growth spurt and just haven't got around to replacing their bikes?

What type of bike should I get for pulling a trailer?

I'm planning to buy a bicycle for myself and a trailer for two children to ride in. For the bike, I'd like to get something like a simple three-speed cruiser, but I've been told that I'll need more gears to pull the trailer. What do I need to look for in a bike to make it a good trailer-puller? [more inside]

maximizing late-night workouts

Maximizing the benefits of my late-night bike rides....? I like to go out for a vigorous (to me) bike ride late at night (around 1am). I can do about 30km in 55 minutes or so. However, I'm at a loss as to how to ensure that I'm reaping the most benefit from my effort. [more inside]

Sweaty cyclist seeks advice

I've just started cycling to work, after four years of my bike living under a tarpaulin in the garden. Now it's serviced-up and going great, but I'm after some advice from more experienced riders on what to do about the fact that I'm soaked in sweat by the time I arrive at work. It's just a 4 mile ride, and I feel comfortable during the journey, but when I arrive I'm soaked through in a few minutes. Maybe I need different clothes? If so, any recommendations? Or would people recommend carrying a change of clothes and a towel? I don't have access to a shower at work, which would be just great, but maybe towelling off and changing would be a compromise.

Chicago Cycling Filter: Daily distance rides?

I recently started working from home, so I no longer have my daily bike commute to the office. Looking for some advice on the following: - Ideal time(s) of day for a nice distance ride with less traffic. - Good routes for a distance ride in Chicago. - Good destination points. Perhaps a nice place to work with a laptop(bonus for free Wi-Fi connections). Also, I tend to like independent cafes/restaurants rather than places like Cosi or Starbucks. - Any other thoughts/advice you have. I'm flexible with distance, though I'd prefer 5+ miles. I'm starting out from my apartment in Humboldt Park if that helps any. Thanks AskMeFi!!

Removable bike bags...

Looking for bags or similar things that can attach to a bike and easily (without tools) be removed that I can carry stuff in. I currently have a MEC frame bag but it's insufficient, space-wise. I'm also familiar with the Detours bags, but they only carry 5 lbs. Suggestions...? It's important to me that when the item is off the bike, its fastening system isn't still on the bike (like a basket or panniers). Also, if I can throw it over my shoulder (when not on the bike) that's even better. [more inside]

Fight or flight?

I've put on 20 pounds since I started my full-time desk job a year ago, and the time has come to get myself back in to shape. Research has brought me two preferable possibilities: a few days a week, either start taking Krav Maga classes (during my lunch break), or start commuting to work by bike instead of driving (15 miles each way). I have no experience with either, live in Boston, work north of Boston. Help me pick the right path. [more inside]
