I'm starting a Twitter account to help promote Chicago/Midwest cycling events, mostly to messy bike kids who like to ride, drink, and have fun. Alleycats, bar nights, bar rides, cyclocross, fundraisers, Messenger Prom, Bicycle Film Festival, Cycle Messenger World Championship, trick jams, etc. Help me think of a @name!

This past weekend, I purchased my first road bike. My long term goal is to cycle to/from work every day. I’ve taken the bike on a few exploratory rides, been humbled by my general fitness level, and came away with a number of questions I hope you all can answer. (Many more details inside. (This ended up much longer than I thought it would.))

Unbranded & weirdly branded road cycling clothing: About four years ago I came across a website that was a clearance center for major road cycling clothing manufacturers. It sold a lot of jerseys and shorts that appeared to be excess items from custom-design production runs printed for odd cat2/cat3 teams in different countries around the world, printed with sponsorships for things like Colombian soda-pop companies, German pneumatics firms, etc. They had a lot of jerseys that would normally be $75-100/ea going for around $30 a piece. I lost the URL and am not even sure if the company is still in business (iirc it was a Yahoo! storefront).

I live in NYC (Brooklyn) and want to go on long (75-100 mile) scenic bike rides in pretty southern-ish Connecticut that I can get to from NYC. I don't have the slightest clue about where it might be nice to ride, and I can't seem to find any good long-distance routes online that involve a reasonable train ride or find any bike clubs that run rides in the Greenwich/Westport area.

We try to use our bikes as our main mode of transportation. We just adopted a wonderful (small) dog, and we'd like to see if there's a solution for putting a dog safely on a bike without the use of an expensive doggie trailer.

I have read that merino wool is the ideal base layer for cyclists because it soaks up sweat without getting cold, clammy and smelly. This is just what I need for my daily cycle commute. But I tried on some merino long-sleeve t-shirts, and found that I am too fat to wear them decently.
Are there merino blends, cuts or alternatives that have the desirable sweat-eating properties but won't cling so faithfully to my bulges?

Music-playlist-filter. An attempt at the world 24 hour record for producing electricity by cycling needs a soundtrack. Can you suggest some appropriate music? I'm thinking cycling, electricity, endurance would all be good themes, but any other related themes would be welcomed too.

My bike helmet leaves deep indentations on my forehead. The marks are really bad right when I get to work, and linger for most of the day. What can I do to get them to go away faster? How can I prevent them? I still get them when I use a head wrap in the winter, so a cap or a bandanna underneath probably won't help. My helmet fits comfortably and I'm usually well hydrated.

I'm looking for a t shirt I saw a while ago. The front had a person (cupid) riding a bicycle and drawing a bow. On the back panel, lower left, there was an upside-down car with arrows sticking out of its tires.
As a pro-biker in general, and an appreciator of design specifically, I really liked this shirt. Google has been fruitless, has anyone else seen this shirt?

I'm looking for an affordable, 10 mile a day road bike for my dad for Father's day.
He doesn't want anything more expensive than a $500 USD bike, but I can't find it in my heart to buy him a $200 Schwinn from Walmart.
Can anyone suggest a road bike between $200-$500 for my dad?
He's about 6'1", 200 pounds, pants inseam 33".
Ordering online and having it delivered (USA) will work. I'm fairly handy with tools an can assemble it, but I'd rather order just 1 bike pre-packaged and not buy pieces individually and put them together myself (tires from one distributor, frame from another, etc.)

So there's an initiative in New York State to consider a
safe passing law for cyclists. The bill would require drivers to give cyclists a three-foot buffer when passing. Opponents want to change "three feet" to "safe distance".
Are there other motoring laws that cite a specific measurable distance, rather than a subjective term like "safe distance"?
