A recent episode of Gastropod convinced me that I should get some gold-plated cutlery as a present for a friend (it supposedly makes certain foods taste nicer). I haven't had any luck finding cutlery in the UK from the usual trustworthy department stores, so now I'm willing to widen the search to other UK stores and also online stores in the US.
Cooking is probably my main hobby these days. And, as a late-thirties professional, I have a fully outfitted kitchen. I'm being asked for gift ideas for Christmas, and I think I'll probably limit myself to 1) whisky and 2) stuff for the kitchen. I'm lusting after new cutlery and am considering forgoing the knife block for a magnetic knife storage device like the Magnabar. Will the bar scratch the side of the knives? I know it is totally cosmetic but after dropping a few hundred dollars on knives, I want the cutlery to look great on the wall.
