Help with Final Cut Pro: How come I sometimes lose the ability to alter the "speed" or "duration" of a .DV or Quicktime clip? It says "a conflict occured during a trim operation." [more inside]

Help me with my "photo montage" video! I'm putting together a treatment for a documentary film using Final Cut Pro, and want to jazz up a sequence wherein the main character runs a bar in the early '60s. As you can see from the rough draft I've done so far: (http://www.wavejumper.org/DirtyBird.mov) - besides being roughly and amateurishly executed, my 3D effect is pretty lame. [more inside]
