Bicep BooBoo?

What muscle did I pull in my arm? In June, I pulled a muscle in my upper arm trying to lift a heavy suitcase-like item. I stopped the gym for a few months, but the pain didn't seem to subside.

I thought it was my bicep, but I am wondering if it might be something else. here are the symptoms:

- I used to feel a sharp pain when I curled my bicep (for example, if I made my fist touch my elbow), but this pain doesn't seem to be there anymore
- I don't feel any pain when I do bicep curls at the gym
- I do feel significant pain in my upper arm, more specifically in the fleshy crook of my elbow, when I try to do pullups.

So I'm thinking it's not necessarily the bicep, but some other muscle that comes into play when I do pullups. What is that muscle and how can I make it better?

OSX: Future as a programmer dashed by failure to interpret Terminal error

Multiple sources credit this Hivelogic post as the definitive guide to getting MySQL up and running on a Mac OS X. But I can't get past the first few steps. I am not a programmer. But I wish I was; they earn more than me and have the best office in the building. I know HTML and CSS and basic PHP. I have been trying out a bunch of Ruby, Python, Django, and PHP tutorials lately but they're all kind of useless because they're not directly applicable to a hosted, "live site" environment that I'm used to ... So, I'm trying to install MySQL on my Intel Macs running 10.5.4 (powerbook and imac) to have a local testing environment but BANG I'm an idiot and I cannot get through this apparently simple tutorial. Of course, the comments are closed and my Googling yields no answer. I was about to give up when I remembered my good friends over here.

Here's what happens, I try to download and build MySQL as instructed:

curl -O http://mysql.he.net/Downloads/MySQL-5.0/mysql-5.0.45.tar.gz
tar xzvf mysql-5.0.45.tar.gz

But I get the following error:

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

I've tried downloading newer versions of MySQL but I just don't know what I'm doing.

URL Find and Replace

I'm working on a quick Automator workflow and need some help replacing the local hostname in a series of URLs. Here's the deal: the Automator workflow retrieves a list of return delimited URLs with random alphanumeric local hostnames (e.g., wrim881q.example.net, ghu2z.example.net, etc.). I need to pass these into a shell script and change them all to the same local hostname (e.g., foo.example.net) and then download all the URLs with curl.

Hitting a URL from the command line

Alternatives to lynx, wget and get from the unix command line? I have a scheduled job that needs to hit a localhost URL once a day. Our servers don't have lynx or wget or get installed. Are there any alternatives? I've tried using telnet and Expect, and it works but when run through our scheduling app (Tivoli Workload Scheduler) I get a message "No environment-specified terminal type." even when I specify the terminal type. So I was wondering if there are other techniques I could try.

LookingForWebsiteFilter: I'm looking for a site I saw, but failed to bookmark. The page is kinda blog-y (but also has projects and other stuff), and the top left corner has a page-curl effect, under which there's a round, grey "Home" icon linking back to the homepage. Black text on white background, otherwise. Anyone know it?

How do you handle authentication via cookie with CURL?

how do you handle authentication via cookie with CURL? I’ve been assigned a tedious job at work. I wrote a PHP script to do it for me, but it requires CURL, which I’ve never used before. Basically I have to replace text in a file with text from various sources. I’m uploading a set of files to my webhost (company doesn’t use PHP), running the script and outputting them to a separate file. The problem is one of the sources I’m getting data from is the company website, which is password protected. I have a password and username, but I’m not sure how CURL deals with them. Once they’ve been entered, a cookie is stored to save auth status.

Do I just use http://name:passwd@machine.domain/full/path/to/file and let CURL handle everything? Or do I have to tell it how to handle the cookie? Or am I not getting this at all?

Thanks.

OS X: cURL help... In Panther, as I understand it, wget was replaced by cURL. Can someone tell me how to make a backup of a web site with curl?
I need to mass download a chunk of a website. It's about 15000 pages, with identical urls except for one portion with a sequential numerical indicator for each page. I don't need to spider any links, I just need it to work through the list of pages. I know there's got to be an easy script-y way of doing this, but you know, I'm a lawyer.
