Where can I find summaries of historical developments, technological breakthroughs, political and social changes etc. in a similar style as the Afterword in Charles Stross's anthology Toast
(free download here)? I am interested in stuff that has happened in the last 30 or 40 years.

I'm interested in resources relating studies on discrimination in the United States today. I'm thinking of something along the lines of
this Tim Wise post linking to a bunch of studies, but something a little more comprehensive, recent, without links through Facebook, if possible. Am particularly interested in data along the lines Wise mentions, about contemporary discrimination against African Americans in housing, employment, etc. Does this exist? Thanks!

I've been considering a position in Jackson, Mississippi. The job would be fantastic and a real step-up. The folks there seem eager to have me. The problem is Mississippi. My parents and sister now live there, but pretty far south (Picayune). I live in PA and before this mostly in the Midwest. Will I fit in?

In light of the horrendously awful "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry," are there any GOOD (i.e. both funny and non-homophobic) comedies about straight people either having to pretend they're gay or, more generally, about straight people slowly but surely letting go of their prejudices towards LGBT people?

In the past few years, I have read--over and over--that many American Christians feel that "Christianity is under attack," and that there is an "assault on people of faith."
