Corrupt Photoshop CS3/CS4 files

I tried installing Photoshop CS4 several times on my Macbook Pro and each time, the icon showed up as a circle with a line through it (see this screenshot). I gave up and am trying to reinstall Photoshop CS3 and it is telling me it's already installed (even though I already uninstalled it). Help! Something is corrupt and is preventing me from installing CS4 or CS3. How can I completely wipe my computer of everything Adobe and start over?

Help me scale an image in Photoshop

Help me scale an image so that part of it is a specific size using Photoshop CS3. I've got an image, and I know that I need one part of that image to be a specific size in pixels, is there a way to scale the image so that that part is the correct size and the rest of the image scales appropriately?

I'm using Photoshop CS3 on a Mac.

I can do it by eye using free transform, but that's ridiculously time consuming, and not as accurate as I'd like. Is there another way to do this?

Divide my photos into separate files

Is there a faster way to split a photo into pieces and save it as individual files? (possible photoshop batch question)

I have about 300 photos that were scanned using a flatbed scanner. To save time, they were scanned 8 at a time, leaving me with about 35 jpegs that each have 8 photos on a page. I want to split these into individual files for a slideshow, so using photoshop CS3 I have been selecting each individual photo out of the page of 8 photos, opening a new document, pasting the photo, and saving it into a folder. This is obviously taking forever. Is there a faster way?

How do I switch windows in Photoshop CS3/Mac? Photoshop does not switch between windows by hitting cmd-`, the standard Apple keystroke for 'switch between windows'.

It was at one time a standard behavior in Photoshop, and later nonstandard but could be enabled through the "Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus" item. And now it doesn't appear to be an available option. Is there a way to impose this behavior back on Photoshop?

Photoshop is such a baby.

CS3: I am having trouble getting Photoshop to select the semi-transparent pixels when I cmd-click the thumbnail. Can you help me? In CS2, if I cmd-clicked a thumbnail of a layer in the layer tablet, it would create a selection of the whole layer, including semi-transparent pixels. In CS3, when I try to do the same thing, I seem to only get pixels with 100% opacity. For example, in this pic, I feathered a selection of the original text, and deleted the selection, leaving me with a feathered outline of Metafilter. However, as you can see, when I cmd-clicked the thumbnail, Photoshop only made a selection of a very small part of the layer. How can I fix this? I would like when I cmd-click the thumbnail, or choose "select pixels" when right clicking, for ALL pixels of that layer to be selected. Is this a change in CS3, or is there something funky going on with my version of PS?

Uninstalling A Bootleg Copy of Photoshop CS3 (Mac)

I am trying to help a friend remove a bootleg copy of Photoshop CS3 from her iMac (Mac OSX 10.4.something) so she can install a legit version she purchased. The legit copy thinks that Photoshop is already installed and won't install itself. She deleted every file with the term "CS3" in it (including quite a few she didn't need to delete) prior to asking me for help. I tried using the Adobe Remover utility, but it wouldn't work because she had removed some of the necessary files.

Obviously, there is some file or setting that remains that tells the installer what is or isn't on the machine already, even though she did get rid of the application. How do I find and delete/modify this so that we can proceed with installing the legit copy?

Camera Raw gone lame?

What did I do to my default Camera Raw settings and, more importantly, how can I undo it? Embarrassingly, I'm not exactly sure how this happened but whereas before whenever I opened a RAW file from my Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) in Adobe Photoshop CS3 (with Camera Raw 4.1) the image's colour saturation, contrast settings, etc. were all as they were when I shot the image, now when open these files the settings seem stripped out of them. I get a file with very dull colours, not much contrast, etc. If I open a preview of the file using Microsoft RAW Image and Thumbnail viewer, I can see how the shot should look, but when I open it in PS I get this version with all the settings seemingly removed.

This is how images from my camera appeared in Adobe Photoshop CS(1) with... whatever the latest version of Camera Raw was for that (which didn't support the 300D, hence the lack of proper image data). I was messing around with Bridge CS3 before this happened and am guessing I might have reset the raw preferences but would that really "reset" them to something that looks like it doesn't know how to interpret files from my camera rather than go with what I thought were the default settings I was using before.

I've browsed around for help on this and haven't been able to find anything on this specific problem. It's incredibly frustrating and I appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Why can't I just copy/paste?

Does Adobe Bridge CS3 allow one to copy Camera RAW settings from one image to another? If so, how? I mainly use Photoshop to process RAW files from my Nikon D50 (on a strictly hobbyist basis). My usual workflow with CS2 would be to load a series of images in Adobe Bridge, make the necessary adjustments to one image in a series, and then copy the settings over to the rest of the images and work from there. It's not the most efficient way, I know, but it works for me.

I've been giving the CS3 beta a whirl to see if it's really an improvement. So far, it seems to be (I really, really like the B&W color mix adjustment), but for one glaring problem: I cannot seem to copy camera RAW settings in Bridge at all!

In CS2 I would simply right-click the image thumbnail in Bridge, select "Copy Camera RAW settings", and then similarly highlight the target images, right-click, and paste. I would then get a handy dialog asking me which settings I want to copy over. Yet despite the simplicity (and usefulness!) of this function, it does not seem to exist in CS3 at all!

Please hope me. If this is actually impossible in Bridge CS3, I may have to go back to CS2. I am not particularly interested in using Lightroom (too slow!). Did Adobe simply remove this feature so they could sell me fancier software?

Adobe CS3 system requirements question

Can I run Adobe CS 3 Design Premium with only 512MB of RAM? My school bookstore/Adobe are offering an astoundingly good deal on (specifically) the Design Premium version of CS 3 right-right now. Problem is, Design Premium's listed system requirements for memory is 1GB. I don't plan on using InDesign or the "Extended" functions of Photoshop much in the immediate future (or, for that matter, Illustrator), and I know that at least a few of the components have requirements of 512MB or less.

Slow functionality here and there aside, the deal isn't going to last much longer, and if possible, I'd like to avoid further blowing my undergrad money on upgrading my laptop's memory. Will the Adobe installer let me install the suite [or components thereof] without having 1GB of RAM? Thanks, all!
