Photoshop CS3 for Mac: Is there a way to create new slices from guides, without destroying existing slices?

I tried installing Photoshop CS4 several times on my Macbook Pro and each time, the icon showed up as a circle with a line through it (see this screenshot). I gave up and am trying to reinstall Photoshop CS3 and it is telling me it's already installed (even though I already uninstalled it). [more inside]

I am trying to help a friend remove a bootleg copy of Photoshop CS3 from her iMac (Mac OSX 10.4.something) so she can install a legit version she purchased. The legit copy thinks that Photoshop is already installed and won't install itself. [more inside]
