I work for a non-profit organization that services about 100 clubs in our region. Recommend accounting/attendance management solution for drop-in group?

My wife has just started a new business venture, which is a weekly drop-in Q&A group for moms. She's looking for some software to support a couple of key functions: simple accounting and tracking the attendees. If it's possible to combine these, then all the better, but I recognize it'll likely have to be two different systems. [more inside]

Customising SuiteCRM by the customer?

New job is going swimmingly except that the CRM I am working with is fast being shown by its own abilities to be a dud. It is called SuiteCRM. I am done with the official customer support and looking for a book that will show me how to do all the things our IT consultant either can't be bothered to do or doesn't know how to do. Particularly, set up functionality to receive email in the CRM and install email templates. Can you signpost me?

SugarCRM proving bittersweet

Is your business or non-profit happily running along with SugarCRM CE? Obviously, server-side CRM systems are not fashionable at the moment but I would be grateful for suggestions for a good alternative or guidance on success with CE. I am okay with a lot of CRMs but the need for a server based solution requires some digging into what is out there. Either recommend a pathway for effective business management use of SugarCRM CE, or please suggest an alternative CRM solution. [more inside]

Less CRM and more CollaboratorRM?

Over the past year my role as a research project manager has expanded to include the management and tracking of dozens of conversations with potential collaborators (everything from individual scholars to large corporations), partners, (occasionally) funders, and others. I'm drowning in a flood of emails suggesting possible contacts, emails letting me know someone at my organization had a potentially productive conversation with a possible contact, emails from possible contacts introducing themselves, etc. I need a better system to keep track of this, but I'm not sure if standard CRM software is what I want. Help. [more inside]

Earning while I'm Learning?

I have been asked by a friend who's just starting a technical consulting business to help him do marketing/CRM. So, what should I charge for consulting services when I am completely new at what I am doing? Sounds foolhardy, I know, but lots of snowflakey details inside. [more inside]

Inexpensive CRM replacement, please?

Hello, We are currently using Business Contact Manger as our CRM software. We are having problems when having to re-install (computer crashes, etc) at this point and are looking to either upgrade to Office 2013 (which will allow us to use Business Contact Manager 2013) or to find a new CRM. The preferred option (long-term) would be to get a new CRM, as BCM (Business Contact Manager) does not meet all our needs, and is essentially defunct, but it would need to be less than the price of buying Office 2013 for the 4 users who use it (around $2100). Lose the notebook?

Made a joyful career change and now work in recruitment. My new job requires logging of all interactions into a CRM. I also have a paper notebook. Things go into the paper notes but do not always end up on the computer. I estimate I am not accounting for 40% of what I could get credit for. I think that the notebook being an actual book matters. I have started setting appointments to remind myself of mundane activities, but that is not enough. Has anyone abolished taking written notes in pursuit of putting everything onto a computer? What has kept you going?
