Rethymnon (Crete) holiday recommendations

Recommendations for a week in Rethymnon, Crete? Some friends and I will soon be spending a week of self-catering in the village of Asproulianos, Rethymnon, Crete. Only one of us has been to Crete before. Aside from Knossos, and relaxing as much as humanly possible, nothing is officially on the agenda. We'll certainly see the obvious things (the fortress, the old town, the museum).

Does anyone have any recommendations beyond that? A good day-trip somewhere different for people without a car? First-time scuba instruction or snorkeling excursions? Restaurants with fresh fish, non-fish meat, and vegetarian options? Great local dishes or potential pitfalls?

Where to buy a replica of ancient Minoan bee pendant

Jewelry filter: Looking to buy a replica of the ancient Minoan bee pendant found near Knossos, Crete. Preferably gold, preferably under $200. My girlfriend and I visited Crete last year and she really liked the ancient golden pendant with the two bees. I was hoping to get her a replica for our anniversary, but the only ones I've seen have been either really cheap, crude silver replicas or pretty expensive gold ones (like over $600). Anyone know if there's a middle ground somewhere? I'm guessing custom jewelry would be more expensive, not less; is this a good assumption?

Off-season Greece: Crete and Athens?

I'm considering a December trip to Greece: probably Athens and Crete. Any tips on the off-season in particular? How many days to spend in each place? Any other places I should be looking at? Possible plan: Fly to Heraklion in Crete, check out the museums and the Palace of Minos at Knossos. Fly to Athens, look at Parthenon and the museums there.

My location: London. My interests: history, culture, architecture, ruins. Assumptions: Ferry schedules are too erratic to count on, Heraklion is big enough that there will be stuff open.

Travel to Europe

Traveling to Europe... Prague, Athens, and Crete.. [more inside] This summer I will be going to the island of Crete (Greece) to visit a relative. I will be in Crete for about a month. This will be my first trip to Europe.

En route to Crete I will be going to Prague, Czech Republic and Athens.
I will only be in Prague for about two solid days and about the same for Athens. What are some must-sees in Prague and Athens and some inexpensive places to stay?

Also, has anyone been to Crete and know of any neat places to visit there?
