I'm 24 and have (apparently) no credit history. Nothing on it. Nada. I'm trying to get some kind of credit to start building up some credit history, but I keep getting turned down for cards. How can I build credit when it seems like nothing I do is being reported to credit bureaus? [more inside]

Is it possible to take out huge sums of money as cash advances and then flee the country? Don't worry, I have zero interest in actually doing this, but I was talking to a friend who claimed that one could apply for a bunch of credit cards at once, max them all out, and then skip out to Thailand or somewhere and live off the $150,000 or however much you got. Is this true? And if so, why aren't more people doing it? [more inside]

Posting for a friend: My friend was bad about paying bills on time for a credit card over a long period of time (multiple years). It's one of the major blemishes on their credit score right now and the issuer has just decided to cancel their card. The question is, how much will the issuer canceling the credit card be on my friend's credit score, and what can they do? [more inside]

Cheap Money Filter: I've got a moderate amount of credit card debt right now ($15k), at reasonable but not great rates (13-18%). I'll be making more money in the upcoming year, and the debt load is manageable, but I want to explore trading these loans with an unsecured line-of-credit type loan or some other loan. Advice? Suggestions on where to get a good rate (i.e. got any good junk mail lately)? [more inside]

So, I applied for an AmEx credit card online, and got instant approval and a 10k limit. On a whim, I decided to apply for another amex credit card immediately after, and got another instant approval for another 10k limit card. Can I keep doing this and apply for more of their credit cards and keep getting instantly approved? Does this sound like a really bad idea to anyone else?... It's so tempting though... [more inside]

I went over the credit limit on my credit card and got whacked with a $35 fine --- again. Are there any cards that, instead of approving your over-the-limit transaction and then fining you for it, will instead decline transactions that are over your credit limit?

A friend in college is very anxious to get a loan for around $5-6000. Neither of us knows anything about credit cards, so I'm asking for some advice on her behalf. (*and yeah, this question seems pretty basic, so sorry if I missed it being asked already) [more inside]

Five years ago almost to the day, American Express decided to no longer cover credit card transactions from p9rn sites, claiming that business with such sites carried unacceptably high incidence of disputes about transactions.. Other credit card companies decided not to, ahem, pull out. Today, the AmEx decision still stands. After five years, can we say that American Express got... stiffed? Or were they right in the first place and the other companies got... screwed?

I've got two credit cards with interest rates of 21.24% and 23% - both with balances over $5K. Both banks have sent me convenience checks - one with 3.99% fixed APR for life of balance - the other with 0% through August (then 17% after). Can I 'swap' the debt from one card to the other by using a convenience checks to pay the balance and getting lower interest rates? I'm paying my debt off every month - but if I can get it to grow slower, I thought this would be a way to do that.

I've never had a credit card before, but now I'm ready to bite-the-bullet and apply for one. I have a decent bill-paying history, have never had a loan, and make around $30,000 / year. I'd love to find a card with an introductory 0% APR -- Bank One seems to have what I want, but I don't know if I should be considering more options. What should I do. [more inside]
