I'm looking for something like Patatap but with a bit more structure (like record, rewind, stop, that kind of thing), so I can just let a tune flow from my soul and then play it back or save it. Creating music without having to think about it too much, maybe just learning the instrument/website as I go along. I don't want to get sucked into learning a DAW; this is just for temporary fun. Is there anything like that? Thanks!
I am having a reoccurring memory of reading about an Native American Indian creation story but I can't remember specifics or what book I read it in. I do remember the topic of the book or this specific part of the being about creation stories and liminal time and space. [more inside]
I have a physics question, but my googling hasn't been able to provide anything satisfactory tonight. It's about cosmological models of creation in which NO initial conditions whatsoever are assumed. [more inside]
I'm a cataloging librarian who works a couple hours a week on the reference desk. This morning I had a patron come in to ask me for sources that back up the claim that the probability that life on earth formed by random chance is so small that some kind of divine intervention is more likely. Hello, brightminded and helpful mefi's. I have an idea for (IMO) an awesome new website that I believe will be huge. Is it still feasible in this day and age for a person to buy a stack of books and learn the coding skills needed for a website with very robust features, to say the least? Or will I have to acquire the funding to hire the people to do this? Funding is non-existent at the point in time.

How do we create jobs? I am interested in learning about how jobs are created on various levels- city level, state level and the national level. What are strategies that governments and community based initiatives use to create jobs on the small and large scale? What are the barriers to mobilizing a community or national job creation strategy? I am interested in hearing research, experience or your opinions on this issue. Thank you!
You work hard at something and end up creating a piece of art that you consider powerful, moving, possibly even groundbreaking, something that people should be talking about. Then you share it with your friends and some portions of the internet, and no one responds or seems to care. What conclusions do you come to? [more inside]

What Windows XP-compatible software is closest in feel and functionality to Garageband? Apple's music making package is one of the things I miss about my old Mac, but for now I am stuck with working on two PCs. The last AskMeFi question on this was five years ago; I've tried Acid and Audacity and hate them both. Help me get my groove back!

Is there a fast, simple way to create and register a real UPC barcode for a retail product? Seems like all I can find is desktop software for sale or sites that don't seem too official or just don't work. Maybe I'm ignorant and there's something about the process that is more complicated than it seems like it ought to be?

I have applications galore mapped out in my head, and want to hire a coder to make them. Without coding knowledge, I want to be the dream client by submitting a GUI graphic and basic directives (like "initial screen displays these 6 buttons" "option for icon/text" "keep all screens no busier than 60% whitespace" "what problem is this app designed to solve?"). Can you supply/point me to such a developer/client questionnaire and free GUI template graphic maker? Please don't suggest I learn how myself right now -- I need these apps because I'm so overwhelmed with stuff to do! Thanks in advance.

Recently, I've started learning the guitar. Up to now, I've been recording and arranging my compositions on my Mac with GarageBand. However, I'm outgrowing it, so I want to find a new budget ($50 to $200) piece of software to use. I just basically want to do multitrack recording and sequencing of .wav based sound files. Also might want to add some effects to tracks, plus probably other stuff I haven't learnt about yet.
