I am cooking dinner this weekend for an old friend who has requested Italian, preferably pasta with a creamy sauce. I am not very well acquainted at all with cream sauces, apart from this very simple one
. I have many extra hours to work on this, and access to several specialty markets and a Trader Joe's. Help me find a crazy delicious recipe! Special farfalle inside... [more inside]

My friend does a ramen night every so often, where he makes ramen completely from scratch. I'm often tasked with dessert because I'm a blogger and baker... I've already made plenty of desserts with black sesame and green tea so I want to try something new.
I have taro powder and was originally going to do something with taro and coconut. I already even made taro marshmallows.
But then I remembered that I had bought a bag of kinako/soybean flour some time ago and I should use it... I found a recipe for a kinako chiffon cake but would an ice cream be better? [more inside]

This has been the Year Of Learning How To Make Ice Cream And Ice Pops. With certain holidays looming on the horizon, I have been searching to no avail, for a recipe for peppermint ice cream pops. I made a successful peppermint ice cream with crushed candy canes...but not sure if shoehorning the product of an ice cream maker into pop molds would really work properly. Do any MeFi Ice Cream Mavens have tips for me?

I had an incredible milkshake once when I was a kid in the early aughts in southern New Jersey. The ice cream place served enormous milkshakes and had distinctive cow placemats. It was not near the shore; it was probably in a rural or somewhat rural area. What ice cream place was it? [more inside]

My hands are a mess due to neglect. Dry, flaky and raggedy cuticles. I don't have spare cash or time for regular manicures - think my last one was 2 years ago. Can you recommend a good hand cream or oil that will get rid of my scales, soothe my cuticles and maybe even strengthen my peeling nails? My skin can be sensitive so nothing too perfumed but I like fancy toiletries so nothing too basic either, and I don't have time to make my own. Sunscreen would be a bonus. I'm in the UK so something available here or that ships to here. And preferably something that will fit in my handbag, or comes in full size and travel sized versions. I thank you.

I have been using depilatory cream on my upper lip. A few weeks ago, I must have left it on too long because it left a mark, I guess it's a burn. It looks like a shadow and it's dark! It's horrible- now I have what looks like a moustache right where a moustache would be! Will this ever go away?
Is there anything I can do to make it go away? Is there anything a doctor could do? Would a chemical peel help?
If there's nothing that can be done, what's the best way to cover it? I've been using foundation, but it still shows through somehow.

I'm making ice cream for my friend's wedding at the end of this month. I need to figure out how many gallons of ice cream I should make, how to store them and how to serve them. Can you help us navigate the logistical details? [more inside]

My crazy dream: A good but relatively inexpensive cream/creme eyeshadow, preferably from the UK (or maybe Asia), without glitter, gleam, glimmer, glint, glitz, scintillation, shimmer, twinkle, or other sparklysparklespark. Can you help? [more inside]

I recently went to China and was so excited to drink corn juice! They also had corn ice cream available on a stick. Now I'm home in Chicago and I'm craving those flavors. Do you know of a place I can buy them? I tried Chinatown but didn't have any luck.

Where can I get Tom's of Maine calendula shaving cream? It seems they don't make it anymore!!! If I can't
get it, do you know of a product that is very similar? This was the best shaving cream I've ever used and have never found anything that can compare.

I'm thinking of putting cream cheese on bagels, wrapping them in plastic wrap and selling them. I expect to be sold out in 2-3 hours. Should I be concerned about the cream cheese going bad? Any other food safety issues?

I was standing behind a young mother at the supermarket. Among her items I noticed about eight cans of Barbasol shaving cream. Any idea why someone would need that much shaving cream? Is there another use I don't know about?

I bought some Meadowbrook Farms whole milk in a glass bottle a couple of days ago. Expiration date: Jan 21. I noticed today when I opened it and poured milk out that some of the milk solids had congealed on the inside of the top of the neck of the glass jar (and some of that came out with the poured-out milk). Is this a sign of rottenness, or of some kind of extremely wholesome milk? I can't tell from the smell.

My son and his father recently returned from 16 days in England with the kiddie's choir. I'm lapping up allll the details like a madwoman, but there's one thing that has me stumped. The adults report that the coffee situation was horrible. Mainly, wherever they went, they were unable to have cream (or half and half) in their coffee. [more inside]

My fiance has become obsessed with making ice cream. He has been making at least 2 new (and unique) flavors of ice cream every single week since August. He keeps saying he wants to learn more about it, and is planning on taking that ice cream master class at Penn State when the time comes, but that is a whole year away. What I would like to try to do, as a gift, is arrange for him to observe a local ice-cream expert (in New York City, or within public transportation reach). [more inside]
