XCodes mysterious death

Why has XCode suddenly completely stopped working? Reinstallation has done nothing. It seemed to be working one day and then the next not at all, with no obvious changes to my system that I can think of. I am using XCode 3.0 on a unibody macbook, 10.5.6. XCode seemed to suddenly stop working about a month ago, giving me this error when I type open blahblah.java in the shell:

LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10810 for the file /Users/lukeo05/blah/blahblah.java

and when I try and open XCode graphically, either with a file or just the app by itself, I get a 'This program has quit unexpectedly' error as it starts to load up, then nothing. The details of this error have this line which may be useful out of everything it says:

Application Specific Information:
objc[8690]: '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DebugSymbols.framework/Versions/A/DebugSymbols' was not compiled with -fobjc-gc or -fobjc-gc-only, but the application requires GC
objc[8690]: *** GC capability of application and some libraries did not match

I have tried reinstalling XCode, and the problem persists, so I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and any ideas what might be the issue.

Need OS X equivalent of WinXP "Restore Points"

Help me track down a bug that is causing one of my OS X applications to continually crash!
I am reinstalling the OS and Applications on my main Dual 2.7 G5 at work, because I need to get around some unknown issue which is causing Adobe After Effects 7.0 to continually crash at random moments, for no apparant reason.

What I'm looking for is some sort of utility which will allow me to automatically track what software I install on my machine, and when it was installed, so I have some sort of paper/bit-trail which can aid in pinpointing what program/extension is causing AE to bomb out so often.

Does such a utility exist?

I'm pretty much an (unwitting) OSX troubleshooting guru by now, so I've been down all the usual roads already (i.e. repair permissions, safe booting, switching to a new user, cache clearing, font folder clearing, memory testing, PRAM zapping, Diskwarrior, TTP, Applejack, Onyx, et. al.), but this is the only problem that continues to plague me. I've installed the latest AE 7.0.1 updater, as well as killed all AE preference files and disabled OpenGL. Nothing solves the problem.

What I'm looking to do is to start fresh from a completely naked system, and one by one, install the little things that I normally usually want to use in addition to my main applications (of which AE 7 is one of the most important), and then at the point where AE starts acking wonky, I can more easily track down what I recently installed before the wonkiness.

Divx seems to make my computer crash, has this happened to anyone else? I recently downloaded a video and had to install the divx codec. Whenever i try to open a video file now, my explorer crashes. Does anyone know why this is happening? Ive been told it isnt divx, but it seems to only happen when trying to view a movie using the divx codec.

CocaliciousFilter: it won't stop crashing, and I haven't even used it yet!

CocaliciousFilter: it won't stop crashing, and I haven't even used it yet! I'm trying to run Cocalicious (what looks to be a great del.icio.us addon from Mac) but it keeps on crashing. At first I thought it must have been problems importing the bookmark data from delicious, but I went to open up the 'About Cocoalicious' page and it crashed on me as well. Mind you, I have lots of bookmarks to import (err, over 2000) but theoretically it shouldn't have a problem, right? Has anyone else had problems installing it? I searched a few Mac forums but no info, and I've seen a few mentions of it on here, so I thought I'd try.

I'm running 10.3, Firefox 1.5 (if it matters) and (trying to run) Cocalicious 1.0b41, which is the latest release. Any help is much appreciated. It looks like it would be incredibly useful, but if it's not going to run, I'll have to uninstall it.

OS X goes nuts (more inside) My crash-proof OS X desktop has done something crazy. The desktop no longer shows up, and all programs crash whenever they try to "Save As..."

Is this the end of my installation, or can I do something about this sad fate?

I wonder if it has to do with removing a bunch of directories to delete "fink."
