Bizarre OSX Snow leopard problem. MBP unibody, 3.06 core2 duo. 8 GB ram. 500 Gig 5400 RPM drive. OSX 10.6.2
Starting about four weeks ago, my system slowly spins out of control - dock/finder/force quit become some of the first apps to fall. This ends in a freeze - UI responsive (mouse, some window movement) with the eventual need to force restart (holding down the power button) It's so bad that I'm constantly running the Console and Activity Monitor to see if I can find some clues. My laptop crashes about 80% of the time when I pick it up or put it down, even when I'm ultra-ginger. Why? Before you cry "Disable the sudden motion sensor!" as far as I can tell, I don't think it even has one. [more inside]

All the Microsoft Office 2004 apps on my PowerBook (10.4.10) have stopped working. The icons bounce around in the Dock, and a Microsoft Error Reporting application launches, but nothing happens. I've attempted to rebuild my Entourage database but it won't respond; I have also tried fixing the permissions but with no luck. Any ideas? [more inside]

I'm having trouble with my mac powerbook crashing, specifically after it awakens after having gone into sleep mode. It does this when in firefox and I save a tiddlywiki page, or when I'm in word and try to save a document. I'm using OSX version 10.3.9.

I'm a pc guy, but my friend's imac hard-drive has crashed. I managed to salvage the entire drive on a dvd, but otherwise it's been rendered inoperable. So, my question: can I just copy the appropriate folders (keeping directory structure) from the dvd to the new (essentially empty) drive and have everything work as before? Can I do this for specific software, such as outlook (all saved emails lost!) or word? Or do I have to to a manual re-install of all software, export of emails, etc., as any self-respecting pc would require. Mac OS 9.22
