Lots and lots (and lots and lots) of 3.5" disks. Don't want to just trash them. Any ideas (possibly crafty) on recycling them?

Attention, crafty people! I do some decoupage (examples to follow) and have a new project I'm stumped on. I have several dozen Chinese birthday money envelopes that I want to arrange in some sort of interesting pattern on my kitchen table. I'm pretty stumped, so I'm trying to find out whether there's any Mac software (or a web-based app would work too) designed for helping mosaic makers make designs. Unfortunately, all I seem to be able to find is the Mosaic browser and various photo mosaic makers. Or, if there's not anything like that out there, I'm looking for ideas about how to lay it out.

I'm relatively crafty, but inexperienced and largely ignorant of building construction. What are the best tools to learn masonry, preferably stone masonry, first as a hobby but potentially as a career?

A British artist names Duncan Wilson (site=down) covered a wall with 4 or 5 layers of post-it type notes, each layer a different color. As they are peeled away, neat shapes form. What are your bright ideas for a DIY version?

Ok, sooo, here's a long shot.
I was looking in a couple design books tonight and I saw one with a room displayed with pillows shaped like acorns.

I just got some of this nifty
resinated chirimen fabric. The manufacturer won't tell what's in it. It hasn't darkened the fabric, doesn't leave a residue on your hands, doesn't smell. It's very pliable, holds a crease, holds a curl, keeps it from fraying.

I want to paint ceramic coffee mugs without going to one of those bake places (too expensive.) If I use acrylic paints and a gloss varnish, will they last a careful handwashing? (I'm not going to expect to make them dishwasher safe.)
