Is there an example layout-template of this, including the attached memo to support the motion (I'm assuming that the memo to support a motion is FIRAC, too)?
I live in Chicago and received a notice that I was on standby jury duty tomorrow and should call a number after 4:30 on the day before to find out if I needed to show up to the courthouse. When I call the number, though, it tells me that the info is not available and I should call after 4:30. It's 10:30 now. What do I do? How do I find if I need to show up?
Hello! A while back, I asked this question. The person who rear-ended me intends to appeal the court's decision. Will I need to go to court again? [more inside]
Someone rear-ended me about two months ago. The police officer gave her a ticket. I just got a court document in the mail informing me of a trial date and time; she is apparently contesting the ticket. Do I need to go to court? If so, what can I expect when there? [more inside]

I've agreed to be a character witness for a friend who has been accused of a crime. I feel that I can honestly attest to the good character of the friend but I am nervous about what exactly this is going to entail. What will the experience be like? My ex hasn't seen our kids in years. He has called about three times total in 2014. He did miss birthdays and Christmas though. Youngest son doesn't know who his dad is. Oldest son wants nothing to do with dad. Ex owes over 10k child support. He recently started paying child support again. He has expressed interest in having the kids over the summer. I worry because when we did live in the same state ex would regularly beg for me to take the kids back early so he could watch football. [more inside]
Why are "court fees" legal when you're not convicted of anything? If all charges against a person have been dismissed, or you've been found not guilty, why is a court still allowed to penalize you monetarily? [more inside]

I am a resident of Illinois. I received a routine speeding ticket in Illinois in early October. I am not eligible for supervision, so I am taking the pre-trial conference route to get supervision or amend. However, my court date is rapidly approaching and the ticket has not yet appeared in the court search and the county clerk's office doesn't know anything about it. I'm wondering whether the officer or the court system has failed to process this in a manner I can exploit to get the ticket dismissed, and how I might go about doing that. [more inside]

My ex-husband hates me. I mean, REALLY hates me. I left him 4 years ago after years of emotional and verbal abuse, and he still has not once looked me in the eye or spoken directly to me since then. We have a 10-year-old daughter together and the divorce agreement says we should split her medical costs (doctor visits and prescription meds) 50/50. I emailed him to ask him to pay his share ($30) from a recent appointment and he emailed back saying that because he had taken her to get her hair cut, he should not have to pay. He then sent me pictures (!) of some over-the-counter cough drops he'd purchased for our daughter and demanded that I reimburse him for them, saying that if I refused I would "set a dangerous and vitriolic (sic) precedent in our relationship." What should I do? [more inside]

So I've been selected to participate in a major moot court at my law school (to be judged by a member of the Court of Appeal), but I'm totally clueless about oral arguments (I was selected on the basis of my written brief). Does anyone have any practical tips to share with a first-time mooter? I've been told to speak slowly and answer all questions directly, but are there any non-obvious things that I should be doing/aware of as well? What would be the best way to pivot questions back to the main theme of my case? Any help/advice welcome!
I need to send some legal documents (a wage garnishment assignment from a spousal support court judgement) to the appropriate department at AirBnB. The garnishment is for one of their employees, my ex-husband. I am having trouble locating the appropriate contact at AirBnB. Does anyone have an email address or direct phone number for either the legal department or Accounts Payable? [more inside]
I hired a marine contractor in Rhode Island to build a pair of centerboards for my boat ($12k). They were delivered 3 months late and didn't fit. I was very clear about the dimensions, yet the builder's designer altered the shape without consulting me. They've admitted fault in emails and in person, apologized, yet won't make the situation better. They offered a refund if I pay shipping charges to/from, customs and excise, and any damages. I don't feel I should pay $2k out of pocket and end up with nothing. What do I do to get justice? Report them to the Better Business Bureau? Hire a lawyer? Go to court or arbitration? Say mean things about them and buy a voodoo doll? Am I entitled to damages beyond the $12k? Any advice welcome.
Not being a lawyer -- but being deeply interested in capture and corruption of government officials -- I'm very curious about possible knock-on effects of the recent ruling in McCutcheon v. FEC. In particular, the majority opinion states, a few times, that Congress can only target quid pro quo corruption. My question is, essentially, how broadly applicable is the ruling going to be? Is the context limited to campaign finance, or was Roberts really saying that there's no pressing government interest in going after non-quid-pro-quo corruption in any form or any context? I have just finished Atoinia Fraser s biography on Marie Antoinette, and she talks in the beginning about the inter-relation of the French court with other European courts, esp. Holland and Austria, but also to a lesser extent England. She then talks about when Louis and Marie fled, they didn't seek aid in those courts, and none of those courts intervened explicitly or implicitly in rescuing the queen or her children. What's up with that?
This is a follow up to this question. I sued my landlord in small claims court (NJ) because I never received my security deposit (after breaking the lease 1.25 months early, but someone else moved in 1 week after I moved out). He did not show up to court on the court date, so I won by default. I now have to contact him within 7 days to ask for the money. What should that letter look like? How do I actually get money from him? [more inside]

I took my dog to the vet clinic for what I thought was a simple spay but she almost died because of maltreatment and negligence. We ended up taking her to emergency and spent almost four thousand dollars. The doctor has refused to take responsibility for her actions. We have decided to sue her and will have our day in court next week. However we need an "expert" witness someone with a medical background that has a lot of experience with dogs to come or our case will not be heard. I got clocked at 22 over the speed limit. The court date is September 10, the cop told me if I pay within the 20 days, they will drop it from 6 points to 4 points. Should I appear in court?
