I am a female with short dark blonde hair. It suddenly occurs to me that I need a Halloween costume, but I hate wearing wigs and I'm not going to color my hair. What can I dress up as that makes use of this hairstyle? We've already got Claire Underwood, Switch from The Matrix, Twiggy, and Patricia from the movie Breathless on the list--so we don't need those. [more inside]
For Halloween this year, my 11 year old son is being Calvin of Calvin and Hobbes. We've sorted out his costume, but I am having a hard time figuring out what to do with his hair. My son's hair, (seen here) is much longer than Calvin's. How can we style his hair, which he has no desire to cut, into a style that still evokes Calvin?
We are going to a Halloween party where the theme is "sinister circus." My husband wants to go as a wicked roustabout. He's all set with a belt full of rope and carabiners, old-fashioned, tattered clothes and oil smudges on his face. He even made up a batch of blue rock candy (which if you're a Breaking Bad fan you'll get.) Problem is... [more inside]
I want to be Vampire Luis Suarez for Halloween. I have the soccer kit, I have the fangs, I have the soccer ball. I just need some good fake blood to put around my mouth - blood that won't stain a polyester soccer shirt. [more inside]
I'd really like to pull off a Travis Bickle costume for Halloween, but I'd really really like to do it without having to shave my head. Help me find the perfect mohawk wig/prosthetic/something! [more inside]
So, my kid wants to be a zombie for Halloween. Fine. But stuff that is too scary gives him nightmares. I do not think he can deal with most of the zombie masks you can find in costume stores. And also I don't want to scare the little kids that will be at the places we are going. [more inside]

Since my most recent haircut has made me look a bit like Mason Verger off NBC's Hannibal ( proof) I've decided to make it my Halloween costume this year. I want to focus on his first appearance in the white fur-trimmed coat. ( Like this ) What the hell is he wearing and where can I find a reasonable look alike within the month? Something cheap enough that I don't have to work it into my daily wardrobe to justify buying it. [more inside]

For Halloween this time, my wife, kids, and I will don our alter-egos as made-up superheroes and villains. I will be the acceptably nefarious Dr. Adequate. What would be a good symbol to put on my shirt? I thought maybe an equal sign or a standard distribution curve. Any other ideas? Is there a simple symbol of pictogram that screams "Adequacy" to you? Thanks!
I am going as a Victorian character for Halloween and need a black lace parasol by tomorrow night. I'm looking for something in this style. As usual, I've left it too late to order online. Halloween pop up shops don't have this. Any idea where else can I find this type of parasol in the Portland, OR area? I've already been to Cargo and Uwajimaya without success. Thanks!

I have an idea for a costume for our Halloween party that involves my not only dressing in drag but also explicitly calling out the fact that a guy dressing in drag shouldn't be as big a deal as it often is. Seems like a good idea to me - but as a white, cis, straight male I want to be sure I'm aware of any offense I might give to less privileged groups before making a final decision on whether to go through with the costume. [more inside]
I am completely stumped this year for Halloween, and my fall back idea has been commandeered. Slightly nerdy ideas are encouraged, and while I am usually okay with being completely unsexy and going as a dude, I'm kind of burnt out on that route this year. Any ideas? [more inside]
Going as Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford in Blade Runner) for Halloween. I found a trenchcoat and toy blaster on Ebay that are close enough. Can you help me find something similar to his shirt and tie? [more inside]
Suppose that strangers and friends tell you, on a semi-regular basis, that you bear a noticeable resemblance to a young Pete Townshend of The Who. Further suppose you want to capitalize on that resemblance by going as Pete Townshend for Halloween. What do you do for a costume? [more inside]
I'm considering dressing as the mathematician David Hilbert for Halloween. I'm using as reference that one famous photo of him in the Panama hat that shows up every time someone talks about him. But I can't really tell what kind of tie/cravat/neckerchief he's wearing. What is that, and where can I find one?
My son would like something like these fuzzy pant legs for his Halloween costume, and I'm wondering if I might be able to make something instead. However, I'm not especially crafty. [more inside]
Halloween is coming, which means it's costume time. This year I've decided to go with a medieval theme, so that I can also have something to wear to the Renfaire which comes around in November. I have a vague idea that I'd like to dress as some kind of wandering scholar or scribe (it would allow me to wear glasses and is a nod to my academic real-life persona) but I don't really have a lot of ideas for how to make that awesome (or even really recognizable). I would like to keep the costume more on the realistic/historical side of the costume continuum than the funny/cheesy side, as much as is reasonable. I also am pretty broke, so I want to keep the Buying of Things to a bare minimum. I am happy to scrounge and to craft -- my main handicap there is that I do not have access to a sewing machine, nor do I even know how to use one, but I am otherwise pretty resourceful. How can I build a good costume around this?

It's the time of year for Halloween costume suggestions again! I work at a university library, and usually some of the staff dress up on Halloween. This year, we're considering suggesting the costumes be characters from books. Who do I pick? [more inside]
It has been too long since I went to a costume party, but I am not really into the Halloween bar scene. I am looking for: a crowd wearing nice costumes in an interesting venue; something that's kind of special. I am not looking for: "I'll wear a bathrobe and say I'm a Jedi, let's go drinking!" crowds. More Venetian carnival, less "this fuzzy pimp hat was all that was left at iParty." [more inside]
I am going to a "Halloween" party in a couple weeks. I own this nurse dress and this nurse cap. In them I look like a realistic, traditional, matronly nurse. I would like to look like a ______, ______, and/or _______ nurse. How do I weird this costume up? [more inside]

I'm looking for Halloween costume ideas (for a man) based around an awesome pair of white, patent leather, lace-up, knee-high boots with about a seven-inch heel. Thought of this but Emma Frost is already not a super-well-known character, so I feel like it'll fall flat. But that's the vibe: cross-dressy / gender-bent or straight-boy-drag, rather than full drag.
It's been over a decade since I had to dress up for Halloween and I am not very creative. Is there anything I can reasonably do using this flowy green 1930's style dress? [more inside]
Halloween CostumeFilter: My idea this year is to dress up as a literal incarnation of a Cat Lady: e.g., regular human clothing in conjunction with as hyper-realistic a cat head/mask as I can come up with. Difficulty: must be finished by this coming Wednesday morning so I can wear it to work! [more inside]

Please help us experience an American-style Halloween in the San Francisco Bay Area (ages 20s-30s). For us I think this means finding the most highly recommend of: 1). A big event crammed with people in their best arty / sexy outfits (like SEAF Seduction, or Decompression if it were reinvented as a Halloween event), 2) An amazing haunted house, 3) Maybe a corn maze or similar? What are your strongest recommendations? [more inside]
