I am getting married on Halloween this year and after a few months of trying to find a unique dress for the occasion and kept coming back to one that I love, both for the personal touch (I have always loved bats since my childhood), appropriate for the elaborate-ness I was wanting to go for, and perfect for the vintage Halloween theme I had in mind. Where do I start? Many questions from someone with very little experience in the seamstress / costume industry. The original image that inspires the look is here. More below the fold of what I've found online. [more inside]
Hoop me! I am going to a Steampunk con and have bought a bustle skirt. This is awesome! However, when I got it, it wasn't as full as I expected. I contacted the Etsy seller and she said she photographs them with a hoop skirt she got years ago. Super! So, where do I get one? I'm looking on Amazon and there are so many. I don't even know where to start because the reviews are all over the place. [more inside]
I am looking for the dress worn by the character "Ruth" in the Pedro Almodóvar film I'm So Excited. Is this dress (same style and fabric) available for purchase? [link to photo of dress inside] [more inside]
I am not at all into the steampunk scene. But for the fun of it, I'm going to this in a couple of months. A friend of mine has been to it regularly, and has persuaded me to join her for the evening. So I need to figure out a costume. I'd like to keep total spend under $100-$150, if at all possible. [more inside]
halloween question: we're 2 ladies wearing these ridiculous orange sparkly pouffy prom dresses, and we're thinking of putting pumpkins on our heads. what clever thing could we be? how could we make our costumes super awesome? we're thinking "pump-queens" or something. can you be more creative than that? something clever or punny would be fantastic! thank you!
So I found these awesome little Japanese sandals (called geta, I now know) and I am wondering if it's ok to use them for dress up or if they are worth something and I shouldn't damage them. [more inside]

I've been invited to a themed party with the following costume rules: Invasion, conquest, exploration, assimilation, sovereignty, or superheroes who save the world! and I have no idea what to wear. Any ideas would be awesome. It's tomorrow night, so I don't have much time to get stuff, and something warm would be preferable (it's damn cold right now).
