My husband and I cook a lot. We're moving from an apartment with a decent gas stove/oven to one with a crappy electric stove/oven. Obviously, Something Must Be Done. Should we go for gas or induction? [more inside]

My just-out-of-warranty electric cooktop died recently, and my handyman came up with the idea that it was feasible to replace it with a gas cooktop. Today, the project was finished up, and I now have this dandy cooktop in my kitchen. The only problem is that I've never cooked on gas before (other than on a propane grill). [more inside]

Our cooktop has a downdraft vent to the outside. We live in a windy area and the flap on the vent bangs often. It's also a huge heat loss. How can I keep it closed when not in use? [more inside]

I accidentally dropped a Pyrex pan of lasagna on my glass cooktop-- the cooktop completely shattered. (The pan, naturally, hasn't got a mark on it.) It doesn't look like any of the underlying structures are damaged. What's the chance we could repair this ourselves? It's apparently at least a $300 repair, and we can't really afford that until maybe July, and I'd like to have a usable stove before them. I don't mind if it's ugly, we can always have it professionally replaced later on when we can afford it. Would this really be worth it? Or are we better off microwaving and baking for months?
