I am borderline obsessed by the Journeyman's Feast in this D&D-inspired menu, which seems to be a slightly less fancy version of a charcuterie board , and would like some suggestions on other food items I can use to make up my own 1-person board. [more inside]
For the next week, I'm staying in a house with people I would rather not see. I have a private sink, but no hot plate or garbage disposal. I need meal and snack ideas.
What are your recipes for weeknight meals? What do you have for dinner that you make yourself in a relatively short amount of time and/or with relatively little effort? Help us figure out a variety of dinners to put on a meal-planning list! [more inside]
Short version: The family's primary cook and caregiver is in the hospital for an unknown length of time. It'll be two weeks minimum, could be a lot longer. Then she'll have a long recovery period at home. Her husband and I both theoretically can cook, though he's not very good, and I have medical complications. Between us we have to feed each other and a couple teenagers. Meal planning's fallen to me, but most of the shopping and cooking is on him. We need to survive until his wife's out of the hospital. Help? [more inside]
Hi, I want to buy a Le Creuset enameled cast iron dutch oven but because they are so expensive I can only buy one. I've waited a long time and finally I'm going to take the plunge and do it. I know I want the yellow color, and heaviness does not matter because I'm going to leave it on my stove top for display when I'm not using it, so I don't have to lug it in and out of my cupboard. There are loads of similar questions already out there in the ether but I'm asking again because I have some dietary snowflakes and I'm the world's worst cook... [more inside]
I've been trying a no sugar/complex carbohydrates diet by dumping vegetables and canned salmon together with beans in a bowl, or dumping vegetables and canned salmon together with shirataki noodles in a bowl and then pouring in hot water. This gets old, fast. What are some ways to simply upgrade the taste of my meals, without added sugar, simple carbohydrates, or too much added salt? [more inside]
I'm somewhat interested in the ingredient delivery systems like Plated or Blue Apron. I am not a busy mom, just a person who wants inspiration and is sick of throwing away leftover ingredients or looking at a nearly full jar of cream of tartar in my pantry. [more inside]
My significant other and I don't live together, and haven't yet come up with a practical or efficient way to cook and eat a healthful dinner together on weeknights when we're both busy during the day and don't get home until late. Looking for suggestions from other couples in the same situation who have figured out tricks, systems, routines, or plans that will help us streamline our dinnertime process. [more inside]
I used to be a pretty good cook and I enjoyed cooking, but haven’t done much of it in the last few years for various reasons. Now, I have an awesome boyfriend who makes me great food, and I want to do the same for him. What I need are some ideas for full meals—not just single recipes but main and sides, etc., and specific recipes or links to specific recipes to accompany them. [more inside]
I know there have been many, many recipe questions on AskMe. I'm sorry to contribute yet another one. But I am in search of simple, quick meals that will actually be eaten by my small family. [more inside]
I need to be better about managing my grocery budget and streamlining my time in the kitchen. I've just started poking around for options but I'm eager for hive mind recommendations. The main caveat is that I'm in Canada, which has ruled the promising foodonthetable.com. Something that allows you to cost meals fairly easily would be nice. Please pardon any typos--mobile AskMeing is a bit tricksy.
For the next 8 months I'll be moving cities every 4 days or so and I'm doing a lot of couchsurfing. I like to prepare a meal for my hosts as a thank you and I'd like some suggestions for meal ideas. I can't travel with a fully stocked pantry, so meals that have few ingredients (preferably things readily available in South America, Europe, and Asia) are important. Advise me, culinary geniuses of mefi! [more inside]
For some reason, I have 4 packets of shortcrust pastry in my freezer taking up what little room I have. Can you a) recommend delicious recipes that best make use of this instead of say, puff pastry, and b) also if possible include recipes that freeze well as I'm about to have a newborn and would like to clear this space in my freezer and fill it with meals we can just defrost and cook/eat once the baby comes. Could the recipe say at what point to freeze (before or after cooking). Savoury preferred but dessert ok in a pinch. Extra points if they're toddler friendly. Even if they can't be frozen, anything that uses it up will be appreciated.
So we clearly have the recipes question taken care of, but I need help with constructing meals. [more inside]
If you've used a meal-planning service: how was it? Do you recommend it? I read this article in the New York Times and am intrigued. The companies mentioned in the article are Saving Dinner, the Fresh 20, the Six O'Clock Scramble, and eMeals.
