I am helping to host a baby shower with an "animals" theme. As party favors, we want to give out some little bags of animal cookies--a step up from basic grocery store animal crackers like these, but the same idea. Is this a thing? (Or should we just get the regular kind and fancy them up with nice packaging?) No, baking them ourselves is absolutely NOT an option. [more inside]
To extend the 911 metaphor, imagine you're arriving at a scene where someone jumped off a three-story building because they thought they might fly. I am on a ketogenic (low-carb, high-fat) diet and was craving sweets, so despite being not much of a baker, I tried to adapt a cookie recipe by substituting ingredients. Now I've got a huge mixing bowl full of crumbly flour stuff, made from nice ingredients like cacao butter and coconut flour and many, many wrong turns. [more inside]
I stupidly agreed to bake desserts for a party of 100 this Friday. I'm a decent baker, a little rusty, but never for so many people. I also need to transport the desserts using NJ Transit and MTA. I need some help getting this organized. [more inside]
I need to make some homemade cookies for some baby shower favors, like 15 small baggies. I have butter, maybe 2 cups of regular flour but a whole box of pancake flour, lots of Quaker oats, and enough eggs, sugar, vanilla and baking powder. Can I make something with this?? [more inside]
While hiking on the Point Reyes peninsula (Marin County, California, USA), we kept smelling an almond smell. We poked and prodded various trees and plants but could not find the source of the smell. What would commonly grow in a costal fir forest that would smell like almonds? It was a strong "so where's the cookies" almond extract-y almond smell, though slightly more herby and piercing than that cheap bakery cookie smell. [more inside]
My soon-to-be-9 year old stepson has requested that I make him a birthday "pizza" of sorts for his big day. His vision involves a brownie base, ice cream as the "pizza sauce" and cookies as the "toppings." I'm a decent baker and this seems like a thing I could accomplish in a straightforward way but I'm wondering if any MeFites can point me to proven recipe winners for this sort of thing. No food allergies or restrictions. He is a chocoholic. Thanks in advance!
Question for the bakers of AskMefi: I'd like to tinker with the recipe for Venetians, the layered cookies, swapping out almond for peanut, but I have nowhere near the experience needed to know how to make this work. [more inside]
If I put a few cookies in a bag, bubble wrap the hell out of it, and place it in a USPS small flat-rate box, will they emerge at their destination intact? [more inside]
Every year, I bake about a billion cookies. Okay, more like two or three thousand, but it feels like a billion. I then deliver and ship them all over the world, to friends and family. Every year, I bake the same 6 cookie types, plus 2 additional rotating types that, if they're good enough, can be added to the repertoire for the following year. I need suggestions for this year's two new types. [more inside]
Recently I am noticing websites that I have visited for years just now throwing up a pop-up asking for my acceptance of their cookie. Is there some change in the law or something else going on? Why now and why so many websites? These are not new sites and I have not recently cleaned out my cookies etc. It makes me curious.
I want to learn to design my own custom 3D printed cookie cutters. (Yes, I know there are shops and websites that can do all or part of the job, but I want to start from scratch.) What programs do I need? Where do I start?

I need elegant but relatively uncomplicated cookie recipes (yes, just cookies: I don't have any cupcake tins at present; not inspired right now to bake a pie or cake, either - however I am open to sweet bread loaves like chocolate pumpkin bread*) that I can make with what I *already* have in the pantry/fridge, and can whip up either tonight or tomorrow morning before Thanksgiving festivities. Pantry contents inside. [more inside]

I'm organizing a bake sale that will take place in a record store; we'll be selling baked goods while a couple different bands perform. It's a benefit for an all-ages nonprofit performance space, so the crowd is going to be more "denim vests and cheap beer" than "PTA fundraiser cake walk." I'd like suggestions for recipes that don't require me to buy an ingredient that I'm only going to use a small portion of, are fairly simple to make, and easy to make into sturdy single servings that don't require plates or forks. Bonus questions: vegan suggestions, jello shots, and savory items. [more inside]

I have software that I can set to do certain types of cleaning each time the computer restarts; delete temporary internet files, empty recycle bin, etc. I can also set it to delete cookies but I don't do it frequently because whenever cookies are deleted, specifically, the functionality on my Twitter account drops, i.e. I can't type in the comment box, I can't see new interactions and I can't see who is or isn't following me. I have to beg the company to do something (which they may or may not do over time) and eventually, functionality comes back. I've tried different browsers whenever I delete cookies and the same thing happens. I haven't noticed if I'm having problems with any of the other social media I use. Why is this happening and can I do anything to avoid it?
As one of my christmas cookies, I made Plum pinwheels (similar) this past christmas, and was left with a bit too much plum jam/butter. What else can I cook with it? [more inside]
I'm planning to spend Christmas at the family home, but apparently the task of Christmas baking falls to me when I get there. I was hoping to get started early and wondered if I could make these icebox-style gingersnaps, and tuck the frozen cookie dough logs into a ziplock bag in my suitcase. Gate to gate is roughly nine hours, though at this time of year, it seems best to consider potential weather delays too.
I am currently making this recipe for chocolate-covered peanut butter balls. Despite following the instructions to the letter, I cannot get these damn things to cohere in any way. What should I add to turn this delicious sugary peanut butter mush into the delicious little round balls it is SUPPOSED to be? Not a very experienced or intuitive baker, so I can't tell whether it should be more dry or more wet or what. It's very...gooey. Added frustration: I did the exact same thing yesterday and it worked perfectly, but apparently baking is like insanity in that you do the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Help please!
I like vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, brown sugar -- what are some reasonably easy-but-delicious desserts I can make that allow for multiple servings over a few days/a week and aren't too troublesome/weird to make, ie., not creme brulee? [more inside]

I want to make those Italian amaretti cookies that call for almond paste. I have some almond pulp and some duck eggs.. Will these ingredients work? I guess I could just experiment but I don't want to waste any of the first dozen duck eggs on something that's not delicious. Can I sub honey or ground dates for the sugar? I guess if you sub too many ingredients, maybe the name isn't the same but the bottom line is, will this taste good?
The majority of my friends are in medical school and are graduating this year. I'm a baker and wanted to give them all small gifts that are cute/tasty/medical or graduation-related. The only thing I could think of is decorated cookies (I do shortbread or brownie cookies) but any suggestions on shapes? Nothing too complicated, please! [more inside]
I've been dating this guy for about 2 months, and he is absolutely wonderful. I want to bake him cookies to show my appreciation for him a) in general, and b) for being especially wonderful during a current shitty time in my life due to family issues. [more inside]

I love to bake cookies for the holidays. I'd like to do most of my baking the second weekend of December (8 & 9), but that's earlier than I've done my baking in the past. Do you have recipes for cookies that freeze well? Preferably after baking? [more inside]
Just upgraded to IE9. On IE 8 I had the option displayed on the screen to enable or block cookies. (I value my privacy) That option apparently doesn't exist in IE9. Do I have to accept cookies from every site, or is there a way to selectively alow them on some sites and block on others?
