I am looking for the name of an old cookbook, perhaps British, that has no text but just illustrations, like the ones from Popular Mechanics that showed you how to make thing with illustrations, or the wordless illustrations that tell you how to evacuate an airplane. Note: This is an older book, so it's not Picture Cook or the IKEA cookbook.
I'm reading/skimming the new cookbook/notebook Prune by Gabrielle Hamilton, which is printed to mimic the binders full of recipes from her restaurant. As such, it contains lots of marginalia. Awesome! But I can't figure out what she means by "wax." [more inside]
My boyfriend is an amazing cook and has been making delicious, bacon-fat-heavy dishes from Thomas Keller's cookbook. My waistline and tummy prefer lighter, semi-vegetarian fare, but I don't want to discourage his wonderful cooking. Is there a cookbook the two of us might be equally happy with?
My bestest friends host a New Year's Eve party each year with the caveat that everyone bring an appetizer they've never made before to share. It's great fun and each year we've found a new favorite recipe and one that gets scrapped into the garbage after the first taste. That said, I'd love to bring them an appetizer cookbook as a thank you for hosting AND bring the best damn appetizer ever. Cookbooks with great appetizer sections are okay, but I'd prefer a full-on appetizer cookbook recommendation. No restrictions to ethnicity or ingredients. Thanks!
I am trying to identify a woman from a cookbook. "The only thing I know about her is two pictures from a cookbook printed by the Maryland Seafood Marketing Authority (Department of Economic and Community Management) in the mid-1970s." [more inside]

Please recommend good books that discuss the theory of food taste and design—analyzing flavors and textures, figuring out pairings, that sort of thing. Either savory or dessert-centered would be fine. [more inside]
