I need to get a few small .avi files burned onto a DVD that will play in a standard DVD player. Complication: I don't have a DVD burner. Are there any shops in Manhattan that will do it for me while I wait?

I've been sent a very short clip I'd like to use in a presentation, but, familiar problem here, it's an .avi sent from a Windows machine. All I can seem to coax out it for my MacBook Pro, using VLC, etc., is sound. Can anyone suggest the best way to go about generating a quicktime mov or some such, with video, from this clip for my Mac? Is there a way to get a Windows emulator, and covert it there for something to play back in the Mac environment? Or something easier? Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

DivX to .SWF conversion always converting without a sync.
I have a video that is an .AVI (DVcodec), I converted it to DivX via VirtualDub and later on converted it from DivX to .SWF via (Flash Video Studio 1). For some unknown reason, whenever it gets converted to .SWF, the audio/video are not in sync.

Why is it so damn complicated to convert between video formats? This afternoon I went on vcdhelp.com to find out how to convert AVI to SVCD and the
simplest tutorial involved six different tools and unbelievably many settings. How come nobody has written something to do it in one step? Can it really not be automated?
