Advice for most "authentic" controllers for Microsoft Flight Simulator X

I want to get my father "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" for Christmas and would like advice for which controllers (wheels, yokes, pedals, etc.) to buy for it. I don't know anything about flight controls or flight sims, but I'd like to get him the most authentic setup possbile. I'd like to hear what is typically considered a good set up for a cost of up to about $200 or so (excluding the cost of the game itself). His aeronautic interests are primarily in prop planes, but other configurations would work as well (jets, etc.)

Rock Band Controllers. Oh what a waste of a question.

My copy of Rock Band is arriving soon. Is it possible to make one of my existing PS2 Guitar Hero guitars work with it? Last generation I used a converter like this to get my PS2 controllers onto my X-Box for backup controllers and they worked fine. None of the converters I see say anything about 360 compatibility, but the connectors are the same across generations, just some button layout changes. Wikipedia says the package comes with a USB hub-- would a PS2 to USB converter box (like the ones for using the guitars in Windows) do the trick?

I'll accept being lame and having laid out too much money for these games, but I'd like to skip having a 4th guitar lying around.

Multiple wireless controllers with multiple xboxes?

I want to have two xBox 360s in the same room with people bringing their own wireless controllers. Has anyone here done this before? How do I force the controllers to grab a particular xbox?

Is there a way to modify an 8 bit nintendo controller to work with a computer, or else, a way to buy nintendo style controllers for the computer (definitely not super nintendo style).

How do gaming console laser guns work?

You know the laser guns that various gaming consoles have - well how do they work exactly? [more inside] These laser guns are generally attached to the console itself, so how does the tv know where the laser is pointing at any one time?
Possibly a really stupid question, but hopefully someone can help with a link or two. Thanks.
