"Quality control" for programmers in the pharmaceutical industry

I recently applied for a job in the pharmaceutical industry as a statistical programmer. I was told that if I successfully move to the next stage of the selection procedure, I will need to set a "quality control" test, in addition to a programming test. I would like to know "quality control" means in this context, so that I can try to prepare myself. [more inside]

Taking back control of an out-of-control life

Throughout my life, the overwhelming feeling has been one of a lack of control over the direction I'm taking and my own affairs. Do human hunters appreciably help balance wildlife populations?

I was recently told by an acquaintance that he goes "varmint hunting" because he believes this helps keep down the numbers of animal types he feels are overpopulated. Is this legit? Any research that says yay or nay? Does it depend on locale? My impression of him is that he's a jerk who enjoys killing (he even laughed about it) and rationalizes it after the fact, and thus I plan to have nothing further to do with him, but I'm also interested in whether or to what extent his rationalizations have truth in them. best flood control/diversion strategy for river cabin?

We have an old log cabin on a river, downstream from a private dam (large manmade lake). Decades ago, a major flood picked up the small house upstream and slammed it against the trees (approx. 1/2 acre) in between, which diverted the floodwaters to either side of our cabin. But what about next time? [more inside]

Turn down Bluetooth 'operator' volume

I just got a pair of these QCY QY8 Bluetooth earbuds. There is a volume control on the right earbud, but it seems to only control the volume of your music and ongoing phone calls. The 'operator' volume, however, is always set to the max--I was just listening to music when someone called, and it basically screamed the announcement into my ears. The startup announcement and jingle are also always maximum volume. I don't see anything about how to control this in the instruction manual (which I can't find online, unfortunately). Any tips?

How can I control my iPhone without touching it?

I need to give a demonstration on an iPhone 6+, and need to have full control of the device. Difficulty level: I will not be holding the phone, and will not have a desk surface for a traditional mouse. In a perfect and just world, I would simply be able to connect a bluetooth mouse and use it like any other input device, but I understand that iOS does not support mice. Trust vs. Control

I posted a pervious question regarding dating a man who wasn't forthcoming about a detail in his life (a 2nd child with a different woman) and my creeping suspicions that learning about him hiding this child was an indication of a future of lies and trust issues. I have let this man go, not because of the child, but because I am unable to trust him for many other reasons and now I want to learn a healthy balance between Trust and Control in relationships and dealing with insecurities. How do you move past insecurities and know when to just trust someone and recognize if your insecurities are causing you to control and sabatoge. [more inside]

CIA mind control

I was reading about psychic driving which is a CIA and psychotherapy technique to change human behavior. What I wonder is what kind of messages did they play to them? The same ones over and over? Different ones mixed together? what kind of things did they say? Seeing as how it was done by Dr. D. Ewen Cameron at a legitimate University under the guise of legitimate psychiatric research , I would imagine he would have released peer reviewed medical journals detailing his techniques, their effectiveness ect including what messages he played to them. What I am particularity interested in is what kind of things were said on the tape they played

Getting added to a rent controlled lease in SF

I've been living in my rent controlled apartment in San Francisco for about 10 months, and would like to be added to the lease (currently, only one of the three of us is on the lease, and she may be moving out soon). Is there anything I need to know before asking the company we rent from whether I can be added? My fear is that they'd use this as an excuse to void the old lease and increase the rent more than what would be normally allowed under rent control. Are my fears justified?
